I am a Southern Belle from Alabama who is looking to move back South from the Northern state I currently live in. I don't know much about Mississippi. Because of my job, I am looking at cities along the coast. What is Ocean Springs like? Is it good for single professionals? I am interested in dating Southern guys. Does the city have a lot of Baptist churches to choose from?

Historic old town Ocean Springs is gorgeous. Tree-lined streets, cottages and bungalows, and unique shops and restaurants. The modern parts of town involve mixture of older and newer homes and smaller and larger homes. Ocean Springs has its own little communty beach and yacht club. The main highway through town has all the usual grocery stores, Wal-Mart etc. For the Misisissipp Gulf Coast area, yes, this is probbably the best community for young people. Right across the bridge are the big Biloxi casinos, which are constantnly having shows, concerts, and the like.

Ocean Springs is kind of an "artsy" community. They have kept the casinos out so as to keep the small town atmosphere alive; yet OS is close enough to lots of other stuff.

It is great for single professionals, and yes; there are lots of churches to choose from (some folks say that's a sign that we don't get along).

I see that a lot of your questions have been answered, and YES! Ocean Springs is a GREAT place to live. There are LOTS of Baptist churches (as well as other Protestant denominations) in Ocean Springs and the surrounding little towns. I live in Gautier and there are seven that I know of in my tiny little town, right next door to Ocean Springs!

Ocean Springs is known throughout the state as a nice place to live. I do not see myself living anywhere other than OS. As far as being a single professional- you will fit right in. As far as finding a southern guy, your best bet would be to try, as we say, "North of I-10" Hah.

Default Not a Good Town!

I lived in Ocean Springs for 7 years years and my experiences were very poor and i have nothing
good to say about this little town, or its' people. Ocean Springs is good at making itself look good and tootin' its' own horn, but beyond that don't believe that their schools are better or that Ocean Springs is crime free.
