My husband and I currently live in costal MS but are considering a move to the hill country of MS. We are looking at Saltillo, Fulton, and Mantachie. I now that Itawama County is a dry county and Lee is not but that is not a concern of ours; our main concerns are : where the better schools are, the cost of property taxes and home owners insurance. Any info we can get would be great.

Out of the three, I think Saltillo has the best schools.

Out of the three, the only one I really know about is Saltillo. It's fairly nice for being a southern city.

I live between Saltillo and Mantachie, and work in Fulton. I have four children in Saltillo schools- we're happy with it. Mantachie is very small, Itawamba is OK but the high school recently got some bad press with the Constance McMillen debacle.

I would think our insurance rates are a fraction of what you pay on the coast.

Fulton is becoming an industrial nightmare. The factories are taking over and it will soon be smog central. The traffic is awful since the roads were planned poorly and many are state highways so what the city needs to do to make the roads safer can't be done until and unless the state agrees to do it. Not much to appreciate about Fulton anymore and we still have lousy shopping and nothing for kids to do. Better off almost anywhere else.
