John,

Thank you so much for the insight and best wishes. I am very much looking forward to the lifestyle and some decent fishing as well.

Hi Ron,

I'm a Southerner, of course I read all your post! LOL. Serousily, I want to tell you that my next door neighbor works at Le Bonheur and has for three or four years. She was a flight trauma nurse for over 10 years here in Tupelo, flying out on the copter every day, so she is a wonderful nurse and has had nothing but high praise for Le Bonheur and how they deal with paitents there. Of course you did mention St Jude and they are a very good hospital for cancer and the like in children, just had a cousin who spent almost a year there with her grandson so all the children's hospitals in Memphis are top rate. They are cutting edge to be exact on many things, and get a lot of private donations to help with research, as they both are research hospitals as well.

Since you have family here and they have many friends, the culture shock and the meet/greet with new neighbors will be minimun for each of you. Yes, the summers are hot, but ya know, our winters are milder now than they have ever been and the area you are moving to gets more dustings of snow than we do so the weather should be compatable with DC.

I don't blame you for wanting out of that h***hole. Welcome to MS Ron and family, we will treat you with Southern Hospitality like you've never known and make you feel down right at home.

Great luck with you guys on the trip down in August, keep us updated on how things are going. You know, you will only be about an hours drive from us here in Blue Springs. And soon, we will be growing like Desoto county since Toyota put down stakes.

You know you are only a short piece from Tunica, right? I hear they are putting in a huge water park to draw more families there, competing with the casinos in Philidelphia where they have Geyser Falls Water Park. So, something your son might like to do when it gets built.

Default Desoto County

I ran across this post looking for information for Jackson County, MS. We moved from Hernando, MS (Desoto County), very sadly in September. Thie move to north Mississippi was our first move. We left all of our family and friends behind in Fort Walton Beach, FL. I thought my life was over! It took me 7 months to adjust but ended up loving the area, it was truly home. If you aren't familiar with the area it is so convenient to Memphis but far enough away from the "big city" hustle and bustle. We loved going into Memphis to shop, attend Red Bird games, see the ducks march at the Peabody, take the trolly or horse carriage through downtown and visit the 5 star restaruants. We lived there two years and were heart broken when my husband's job took us away. We lived on Thousand Oaks Drive in Hernando, just outside of the city limits. The area in that whole subdivision is wonderful. We have a good friend who is a custom home builder up there. He and his family live in one of the new subdivisions that he is building homes in on the oposite end of town from where we lived. We met them in our Sunday School Class. Let me know if you would like to contact him. His wife is also a real estate agent who handles their transactions. In that area it is a buyers market!! I'm not familiar with doctors in Memphis outside of the ENT field. Our children went to the Dr. Lacey and Dr. Phillips in Southaven at the Children's Clinic on Airways. They came highly recommended to us and we were so pleased with the care they provided for our two. I'm sure you could get information from them of specialists they recommend. My husband and I found a family physician in Hernando at the Baxter Clinic, Dr. Rob Meachum. You couldn't find a better doctor in the largest city. He is young, knowlegeable and very interested in you as a person. We miss the care we received under him. We started out attending Hernando Baptist where we met many, many nice families. We then began attending Colonial Hills in Southaven. They have a great homeschool network and the pastors are truly annointed leaders. There is also Longview Baptist in Hernando that was recently built. We have many friends who attend church there. There are many other denominations and the Discovery Center, non-denominational.They have an outstanding public library. There are a lot of real estate agents in Desoto County, do plenty of homework before choosing one. We did not fair very well buying or selling, as far as agents go. If you go to look around make sure to stop into High Ground Coffee Shop. They are a christian family-owned shop open for breakfast (best doughnuts!) and lunch. We've heard they are now open for dinner on the weekend. We have life long friends that we stay in touch with and visit often.
