Good morning,
I need to find out more information from people who are there about Elementary Schools in Ocean Springs and Gulfport..primarily Bayou View Elementary. I visited a couple months ago and I looked at Oak Park and Pecan Park in Ocean Springs. However, in looking at school ratings and test scores, it seems that Bayou View is the best down there and that schools in Ocean Springs seem to have dropped in scores. I was hoping to hear from people there to see what they think. For anyone with a small child, you know that schools are the most important factor when moving. Hoping to make a move within the next 2 - 3 months, so, could use whatever info could be provided!
Thank you!

Bayou View in Gulfport definitely has higher test scores. Ocean Springs is probably preferred in the high school level. Pass Christian also has high scores.

Thanks for the information. As my spouse is already down there, he has the job of looking at the schools and finding a place to live. We are picking Bayou View as our #1 school to focus on, but are having some trouble locating home rentals in the area. As we are not sure how long we will be down there, not looking at buying at this time, and need to go the rental route. Preferably a house, would consider a duplex or townhouse. Really don't want to go to an apartment complex? Does anyone know of anyone who could help in finding a place? Thank you again for your assistance.

Ask anyone and they'll tell you Ocean Springs is known for its excellent school system.

But, what are these people basing this information on? When I look at Elementary School Rankings for the area, Ocean Springs schools have all fallen in ranking. The best listed is Oak Park, however, they rank only 51 out of 401 schools. Their average score in math is 71 and average score in language is 69..not really anything to brag about!

bayou view is certainly the most desirable in gulfport. since your spouse is down here, he might just need to drive around the area looking for rentals. a lot of people just stick a sign in the yard - there is definitely not as much online as other places I have lived.

I appreciate the responses I have received. We are still in the process of checking out different schools in the area. does anyone there have opinions or experience with any of the private elementary schools in the area? We were first considering public as we were looking forward to not having to pay like we've been doing for preschool! But, we are open to what is in the area.
I've been a little concerned as I've seen some reports online that sometimes kids coming in from other private schools get bored if they enter public schools there...has anyone had experience with that as well? thanks to anyone who responds.
