Can someone provide me information on the best place to live near Indianola? I am in the process of deciding whether to accept a job offer in Indianola and need to know what the schools are like, community programs, development, etc... I currently reside in Michigan and have not read very favorable things about the areas in and around Indianola. What are the thoughts about Greenville. I am willing to commute 45 - 60 minutes.

Greenville was a dangerous place at one time, though it appears they are getting crime under control some. Look at Cleveland, it has Delta State University, and crime has been historically lower.

Greenville would have more amenities, such as shopping, etc. but I think I would rather live in Cleveland if I had a choice.

My husband is looking into a job that covers the area of Southern MS. He would not have to travel north of Jackson, but will need to reach everywhere else South of Jackson. We are living in Baltimore, MD now (we both grew up in rural towns though, about 4,000 people in my hometown) and want to give our family of 6 some space to breathe. We homeschool at the moment, but are open to public schools if they are any good (doubt we could afford to put all 4 kids in private). I've read this thread and didn't see much on those in between towns of the gulf and Jackson. If we continue to homeschool, I'm a bit concerned with available activities for my kids, but even that won't talk us into living in a "city." We want land. I'm most comfortable living in a tiny town (well, the outskirts of one) with the basics, and about 30 mins or so from a bigger city with anything else we might need. Is anyone familiar with Southern MS and the little, and medium size towns?

Brookhaven might be nice for you.

God bless,

Hattiesburg area would be pretty centralized for your husband as far as driving to Jackson and as far south as the coast. Hattiesburg, itself, isn't a big city and there are other smaller towns within a short driving distance. Purvis, Sumrall, are about 15 minutes from Hattiesburg and are both in the Lamar County School district. There are things to do in Hattiesburg, or you're only 45 to 75 minutes from the coast.
