Default May be moving from Detroit to Jackson or area

Hi there. I've recently gotten a job offer in Jackson and I've never been to Mississippi or that far southeast in the south.

All I really want is to live in a nice, pretty diverse area (I am multiracial) and I just want to live around young (under 30), nice and educated people, eat at good restaurants, and shop at smaller stores and boutiques, with some malls around of course.

I'm pretty openminded about the state, but I just want to live in an area with these qualities that's not too far outside Jackson. I'm only 20 and this would be the first time I've lived away from home for longer than three months.

Hope I'm not being too complicated. Thanks!

I would look at the Bellhaven area of Jackson. It is an older neighborhood with lots of young people (two colleges nearby) mixed with old Jackson families and is the "liberal" part of town. Also look in northeast Jackson within the city limits. Most of the shopping and good restaurants are there with lots of boutiques and local places mixed in with chains. As you get away from these areas, the people become less educated. Since you're young, you should stay away from the suburbs.

Belhaven or Fondren. I think you would like both, but I think Fondren is a safer area of the city.
