Good morning.

I am relocating to the area from nearby Arkansas. I plan on renting for a year and then hope to purchase a home. The areas I am looking at are Long Beach, Biloxi, Gulfport areas.

I have done some research on the area but not knowing what neighborhoods are like is a bit frustrating. I know their will be crime everywhere but I don't really want to dive into that kind of area.

Right now I live in a historic area of Arkansas, it's nice but I am looking for a change.

I have no children but I do have a kitten not quite a year old. I have my own vehicle but will probably look at the city transportation when I am there. I have a visit planned to Biloxi in less than a week and hope to be relocated by Dec 1st, 2011.

I would be kidding if I said I didn't want nearby the water. I do I have a rental price in mind but I won't disclose that here.

I have talked with my insurance company (state farm) and they have said I need to check with the Biloxi area on rental insurance and flooding insurance. That may be a change for me, as far as costs.

I am moving because I do like to stay ahead. Rent in Arkansas in the city is going up and the pay rate for work stays the same.

Any information you could give me on rentals, the people, the life, would be helpful.

Thank you so much.

Hi I don't have detailed info about the coast but wanted to suggest you visit the Ocean Springs community while there. Also, Bay St. Louis had a charm before Katrina and I don't know how far it has come back--but would be worth checking out.

I second Ocean Springs. It is nice. My wife and I were looking to move there a little while back but it didn't work out, maybe in the future. It appears you can buy a house on the coast pretty cheap in some areas. We were looking at a nice house, and while it wasn't huge, maybe 1300 square feet, it was only about $48k. It was a newer house to begin with, that I think had damage and was completely remodeled.

I think since the market is down you should be able to find a deal.
