Default best rural areas near a city?

well I'm looking for a place where i can own some acreage, hunt, and do a little fishing. Another factor is its proximity to New Orleans. I'd definitely want it to be in Mississippi but I'm wondering where in Mississippi can this place can be

Pearlington and Picayune come to mind if you want proximity to New Orleans. I'm sure that there are some users here that can give you more information on that area of the state. You'd also be close to Bay St. Louis and Biloxi. Keep in mind that you can also find good rural areas outside of Jackson and Memphis.

those places look great especially Pearlington since its close to the coast.

Also are there any places in between NOLA and Jackson?

I'm guessing you are wanting a small town, but big enough for a Wal Mart and maybe a Home Depot. In proximity to New Orleans I would suggest Columbia, Poplarville, McComb, and Brookhaven...all good towns with some beautiful countryside around them.

How "rural" are you looking for and how far from the city do you wish to be?

My family was in McComb from the late 1800s till they all died out. I still like McComb and visit it from time to time when I'm in that part of the country. Unless things have changed a lot...Percy Quinn State Park used to be a good place to fish (and hunt alligators if you're so inclined...)

Not sure what you're looking for but Abita Springs may be it. Look into that area and you may be happy.
