I may be in Meridian, MS on a Sunday next month. I've been trying to find something to do there as I'll only be there at night and leaving in the morning. Kindly direct me to a cool part of the city to go to have a couple of drinks, some good, southern cooking and meet some nice locals?

Also, I won't have a car, so I'll be taking cabs and/or walking wherever I need to be so I won't be able to stray too far from the city.

Also, is it worth it to stay in the city or stay out by Bonita Lakes Mall?

Forgive me for jumping in people, but as there's been no response...

Meridian isn't very big. Bonita Lakes is at most 5-10 minutes from Downtown.

If you want to go to a Southern juke joint, there's one in between downtown and the interstate that was great- the house band the night I was there was led by none other than George____, who was the leader of Dr. Hook and the Medicine Men or whatever it was called (On the Cover of the Rolling Stone....).

Do you happen to remember the name?

I'll only be there one night before I take the train home. I can't seem to find any hotels downtown, but there are some on the outskirts near the highway and some near the Bonita Lakes Mall.

Good call!

Thanks...I think I may have found my bed and breakfast and a club to go to at night...and I won't have to take a cab because they're all in walking distance. I appreciate the help from all of you.

Once again thank you all for your help. I booked a night in the B and B...it was so nice to get on the phone with someone who had a nice southern drawl.

If you would, follow up on your visit. I know you loved that little train station, neat as a pin. The town around it is aging but safe.

What did you find in Meridian?
