Mississippi really isn't all that bad. If you're an outsider, you may have to work harder at being accepted, and have some patience, but eventually things work out. This state gets a bad rap from a lot of people, most of whom have never lived here. There is a lot LESS racial tension here than in most places I've lived in the north.

Don't feed the trolls!!!! This guy gets banned weekly and creates new log-ins with new names. The mods usually catch on in a couple days and ban him again. Don't encourage him.

I was born in Arkansas; have been missing the South ever since I was dragged kicking and screaming away, 1st by my parents, and 2nd by my late husband. What's the attitude like in Mississippi toward other Southerners?

Don't forget In the Heat of the Night, too! I joked on another forum that, according to that tv show, Sparta MS must have the highest murder rate in the nation. 350 people in that town, 3 murders every episode. After two seasons there should be no one left. My favorite strange depiction of Mississippi is the episode of ER where Eriq La Salle's character visits MS and rides around on a swampboat in the bayou. What? Maybe there's some corner of MS where you can tool around in a swampboat, but I ain't never been there.

And you'll be fine as a Northerner if you stay in the larger towns. Stay away from the itty-bitty places, I was born and raised there and even I'm scared of them. Stay away from Jackson too, for God's sake, stay away from Jackson.
Haha, Jackson does have its extremes. The crime is pretty bad here, especially in the minority areas and then you have the wealthy elite areas. Most of the Jacksonian elites have a reputation of being loud and in your face, even back in the seventies when my mother was at Ole Miss, she said that all of her group tried to steer clear of the Jackson girls.

Hello Mississippi. I have been thru Corinth several times on my way to Tenn. From what Ive seen I love the town. My Aunt has selected Corinth Hospital for all her health care needs. I do not want to own a house anymore though. Is it difficult to find homes to rent? Also, I have 2 horses so the rental home should allow horses or are there boarding facilities? and what is the average cost to board? My son and his wife are looking to relocate there also. My son is still in college and majoring in Law Enforcement. His wife nursing. How are these feilds of employment up there?

Visit Corinth before moving there. I rented in Corinth last summer and HATED it. There is absolutely nothing there - must drive 1 hour to Tupelo or 1 1/2 hours to Memphis. Awful, awful, awful place! Don't be fooled by their quaint little downtown area - the festivals are highly over rated. I met a couple of people while I lived there and they were nice enough but I was told flat out that I would never be a "Corinthian". I was told that perhaps my children could be if they grow up there! Strange, strange, strange place.
Not sure what the dissing on Jackson is all about - I love Jackson and the surrounding areas. Granted, downtown Jackson can be dangerous...so, just don't go downtown. That's not where all the good places are anyhow. Madison, Flowood, Clinton, and other surrounding areas are great small towns with access to anything you need in Jackson.
