mart,
I understand completely your concerns for your children. I grew up in Tennesssee, and the K-6 school my little brother is in has 3 black children in it. This last year I moved to a town in MS with 56% black population while I'm on a college internship. It was quite a change. Everything, the culture, the traffic, the clothes in the stores. I can't imagine any church turning someone out because they are black, but there are churches here that I'm not welcome in.
That said, I think Booneville is a good choice for your situation. The black population is about 1 in 5. If your kids have 25 students in their class, that's 5 kids from a new culture for them to meet, which is doable. I think the fact that it's a smaller town will help you adjust. On the plus side, it will be good for them to broaden their horizons some while they're still young.
I was actually looking at towns near the Toyota plant also. I'm finishing up my B.S. in Industrial Engineering, and would love to work at Toyota. I was really hoping they would pick Chattanooga, but that fell through. I hope your husband gets to stay where he is. Good luck.

I have family in Booneville, MS. It is a very small town. Very country- like stepping back in time.
If you enjoy large cities you will probably not like it. If you like the more simple life styles, friendly, easy going, county folk you will like it.
I have come to appreciate it more since I have gotten older. I was born and raised in Memphis, TN and now live in Eastern NC on the coast. I only get to return to Booneville about once every 2-3 years. I love the farms and the cows and horses etc.
My older sister and brother-in-law moved back there a few years ago. He is working in Tupelo, but on a rural road outside of town, close to my mother.
I know this doesn't give you the answer you are looking for, but if it is a good job, I'd give it a try. These days, smaller is better, I truly believe.
Wish you and your family the best.

Mask; ibid.
Just moved home after about a 25 year absence, not much has changed except the landscape.
Here's a tip: Tall fences make great neighbors. ...and lock up your daugthers at night.

who would one talk to about a new vote to legalize alcohol, when was the last time anyone tried to change something there

Booneville is a small city that has a community college (which my son attends).
Toyota is coming to our area very soon; so things willl change throughout the region.

Just so you know Booneville has alot of young punks on their police force. They like to ride around & get in behind you then they call in your tag for no reason. They have also been known to beat up on people for no reason.
Not a great place to live if you're looking for protection from the law. You'll only get harrassement.

We moved to Booneville after we lost our home in hurricane Katrina. We are from New Orleans. We hate it here, there is nothing to do, it's a dry county ( no wine or anything ) they do not have any fine resturants at all. Most people are inbreds with no culture or class, our home has been up for sale, no fast internet outside city limits. The city and it's people are 40 years behind. This is a looser town. Your best bet is to move to Tupelo which through the trace is about 21 miles. When you don't see many people they are all hanging around in Walmart. PLEASE PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR DO NOT MOVE HERE. IF YOU DO DECIDE TO MOVE HERE, PLEASE BUY OUR HOUSE SO WE CAN GET OUT OF HERE, I AM SO SERIOUS !!! WE JUST WANT TO RETURN TO CIVILAZATION. The town is so small, everbody knows everybodies own business. The people here are so UNFRIENDLY. You will live in TOTAL CULTURE SHOCK ON A DAILY BASES. On the news, you will hear alot about insest throught MS...
sincerely yours,
can't wait to get out of BOONEVILLE !!
PS... I KNEW I WAS IN THE WRONG PLACE WHEN WE MOVED HERE. WHEN ON THE HIGHWAY SOMEONE WAS SELLING CORN, BUT THE BIG SIGN READ " KORN FOR SALE "
