So I was born and raised in Kentucky, I lived in a small town with around 2000 people in it. The area I lived in was very simple I guess is the best way to say it. I moved to Pennsylvania to work, so far in all honesty I have absolutely hated it. Its really not because of PA but just because I miss the southern culture that, well, is who I am. I stick out like a sore thumb, I'm nearly the complete opposite of everyone around but for the most part I gotta say, the people here have been pretty cool towards me. Most, don't jump to conclusions, because I've also come to realize how much different folks are here. They seem like their always mad, on edge, and just ready to have altercation. In a nut shell, they were just born and raised different than me and thats not a bad thing, it's life. Anyways I'm saving money and plan to reallocate ASAP. I'd love to find a small southern cultured town with low cost of living. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I see where you have posted in a lot of southern forums - but there's a world of difference between Kentucky and Mississippi, or Louisiana and S. Carolina. Can you give us a little more info on what you are looking for, type of employment, lifestyle? Goodness - I'm in Arkansas, from Mississippi, and I can come up with about 15 places off the top of my head - but again, MS ain't KY - there are very definitive differences.

Since you asked for small and cultured, what comes to mind in Mississippi are Corinth and Brookhaven...pretty homes, beautiful yards, nice little downtown, and very southern.

Makes sense Sam and trust me, from visiting, I know it's a lot different from KY which is a good thing to me. I actually posted in several different state forums because I've narrowed it down to states and now I'm trying to narrow it do to cities. Sounds crazy, I know, but it's gonna be a big move for me because I plan on it being my last. I know that all parts of the south are different in their own ways and that's what makes it hard, I like a little about every state lol. As far as being more detailed, Im looking for a small town with small business', far from the city, hunting/fishing friendly but not a must. It's hard to explain so I guess the best way to say it is, a small town with a strong sense of culture, where everyone knows each other and don't need all the things city folks need to be happy. Im single and it will only be me coming so if it has one room, a kitchen, and bathroom, I can make due. I have a degree in business, experience in security, business, and oil/gas drilling but I am willing to work in new fields if need be. That's really all I know to say so hopefully it explains the situation better.

I would recommend Pontotoc. It is between Oxford and Tupelo - two towns (actually Tupelo is a small city) with a good bit to do. Oxford is the home of Ole Miss, and Tupelo is the business hub of northeast Mississippi. God bless.
