Default Falkner, MS... what's nearby? schools? jobs?

Hi everyone,
Well, If all works out, I'm renting a house from my dad, in Falkner, MS - between Ripley and Walnut - which I'd never even heard of... I'm originally from Memphis, lived in Olive Branch with family for a few years, went off to Nebraska most the year, now it looks like I'm winding up back in MS...

So, I'm not familiar with this area at all... what's nearby? will it be easy enough to find work nearby? I'm not picky about what kind of work I get really, just will need something part time at least, was hoping to find something at a vet's office where I could take my dog to work with me until she gets over her separation anxiety...

What about schools? colleges nearby with Agriculture or Vet Tech programs? planning to get in school spring semester I think. Also wanted to make sure there's a good place to buy poultry/fowl in the spring, and supplies... like Tractor Supply or Orscheln's type places? gonna put up a chicken coop there and hoping to get critters in the spring... I miss my critters I had in Nebraska

Anyway, enough rambling from me..... my dad couldn't tell me much about the area, he has the house there, but someone else manages the property and he's not too familiar with the area. So any info would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Lisa

Default About Falkner MS...

There is not much to say about Falkner. Its basically a gas station, a post office, auction, cafe ( til 2pm), ele. school, Junior and high schools. And dont forget the volunteer F.D. Its very small town, tucked between two not-much-bigger towns. Ripley is where all the business takes place, about 6 miles south. That is where you can get your feed and supplies at the local Co-Op. Theer are a few vets in Ripley as well. As far as colleges go, there is Northeast C.C., Blue Mt College, Northwest CC, Itawamaba CC, and a few more with in commuting distance. Large schools like Ole Miss and Miss State are a bit of a drive. Corinth and new Albany are the closest 'cities'. Both offer 24hour businesses, social outlets and just about anything else that the small town of Falkner lacks. And jobs here are mostly manufacturing. Just about anyone you speak with works in a factory ( usually furniture),me included.

I am from Pasadena CA, and moved to this area at 13, its a bit of an adjustment, even from Memphis, but Memphis is only an hour drive! I hope this helps you out some, and WELCOME to Falkner MS!!
