No, I'm sorry to say I know nothing of your country, never felt the need to know. But I can safely say if you move here with the attitude of what is bad in this country, you might be surprised when people defend Her. And no hard feelings..

My country is diverse, you have the highlands which is very rural but not poor and the lowlands where i live that is semi modern, that keeps its traditional look but like i said before some parts of the states look like 3rd world countries when i compare to Europe. Im glad our government doesn't let us get that bad. I kinda feel sorry for some people out there.
I had no problems in NY state as it seemed like where im from.
I dont want to sound snobbish to everyone here but as you can imagine i expected America to be better than such a small country like Scotland but i guess i was wrong. I do like America but the way politics is run is very much to be desired, Bush is the most hated person on the planet, we all hate him here bc of the war etc.
I'd just like to find somewhere in America that wasn't pro hunting and pro gun that felt normal to me as like in Scotland we can live in peace without the need for firearms.

Im thinking you would be really comfortable in San Francisco or New York or some really large safe city where there are no guns and no crime and everyone cares about the environment. No one hunts and they really seem to hate our president there. But do stay away from rural america I am pretty sure if you speak as you write you might catch a bit of trouble.

Several years ago I was on a cruise and at one of the evening meals, we had a pair of scottish lasses at our table. The first words out of one of the scottish lasses mouth was " When are you Americans going to elect a president you can be proud of ?" You certainly are correct about first impressions. Your comments refreshed my memory.

Im an average hard working person who lives in a semi rural part of the west of Scotland so I wouldn't say I was a snob. I've been to America many times, my partner is American and I know alot about your culture. The rest of America I like but im not going to agree to something just to make friends, thats just fake in Scotland we speak our mind and if people dont like it we say "feck em!"
It sounds like you dont know anything about my country, most Americans i know are very into our culture and how friendly we are. Most have ancestors and there are alot of Americans who move here because they hate the way everything is so lax and attitudes stink
I hope this has cleared some issues up because I think you were getting defensive for nothing. I've noticed that about Americans they hate criticism, here we are very open about issues thats why we move on and try and improve.
No hard feelings eh.

Scotslass, no one in this thread has been impolite or angry with you in the slightest. We may be defensive, but that is because we love our home state and feel a certain amount of pride and loyalty to Mississippi. Can you imagine how you'd feel if a foreign person visited Scotland for a few days, and then bombarded you with questions like, "How come you people are SO POOR? Why are you so IGNORANT? Why don't you do this or do that like WE do back where I come from?"
Mississippi and the other Southern states are poverty-stricken for reasons that are very complicated, but involve a bloody Civil War, and the fact that big industry never developed here (a mixed blessing). We have been agricultural for many years, our ancestors were farmers, sharecroppers, or slaves who tilled the cotton fields. Our history has often been painful, but there are many things we are proud of, including the literary achievements of our native sons and daughters such as William Faulkner and Eudora Welty, and the Blues music that was born on our soil, from which many of the most popular and influential music styles of today evolved, including rock and heavy metal.
I've seen your threads in the other forums inquiring about where in the USA you would like to live, and I have to ask you: if you're finding it so hard to find an acceptable city in the USA, why don't you and your boyfriend stay in Scotland? You could both have an excellent standard of living in your native land, and surely he could apply for citizenship once the two of you are married.
