Default Nicest Subdivision on the coast?

So far, I hear people rant and rave about how nice "Gulf Park Estates" in Ocean Springs is. Is this the nicest subdivision on the coast? If not what is, in everyone's opinion.

I live in Gulf Park Estates. I would say like everywhere else it has its good and bad points. It's not the nicest subdivision on the Coast. The biggest drawbacks are there's no sidewalks, it's more buggy than many other areas of Ocean Springs and there are areas with drainage problems also. If you're looking to move here you need to visit the street and the house after a heavy downpour. The positives are that we are Ocean Springs schools (Magnolia Park Elementary is one of the top on the coast & the Middle School is close enough alot of the kids ride their bikes or walk to school). We are county so we don't pay city taxes which is a bit of a break. The Super-Walmart is less than two miles away so it's convenient also. And it's a very safe area, at least where we live it is. There's a mix of people who live here, from young to old and if you have kids, there's alot of families with kids so there's always someone for them to play with. The houses and house prices also vary. There's small houses, new houses, big houses and little houses. Some are on single lots and others (usually the older homes) are on double or even triple lots. Some houses are on septic and some are on sewer. Some are on community well water and some have their own personal wells. So it's a great place because there is such a diversity available here, anyone can find what they're looking for and in no way can it be referred to as a cookie-cutter subdivision (which, depending on what you're looking for, could be a bad thing).

There is a self-contained community being built in Woolmarket. It is supposed to be really nice. Gulf Park Estates is nice, but didn't it get alot of damage from the storm?

DB3,
Isn't it off the water? Maybe I am thinking of a different subdivision. If it is the one I am thinking of, my friend lived there......her insurance company said the same thing.....maybe after the lawsuits are over, they will sing a different tune.

No, the southern end is on the Gulf and the western edge of the development sits on part of the back bay of Biloxi. If you mapquest Beachview Drive, Ocean Springs, MS and follow it south you get a good picture of the layout. It's got a lot of water around it and the damage was pretty much a mixed bag. Many houses are gone, some took a lot of water, others took minimal water but had a lot of wind damage and still others came out okay with just yard cleaning to be done. What was weird was how there was no clear delineation to the water damage. One house could have had eight feet of water and a couple houses down the street had none. I guess it all has to do with the elevation.

The worst part for me of dealing with "Katrina" has been insurance, I'm sure like many...

Yeah, a friend of mine had about 8 feet. What was wierd was how her above ground pool was lifted up, moved across the road and set down in another person's front yard like it had been set up there initially.
Her insurance has been a nightmare.
