I am moving from Ohio to Jackson. I am looking for an apartment( 1 bdrm) in a nice area. I am willing to comute 25-45 mins. I don't have a clue where to start looking. I'm pressed for time.... have to start work 2nd week in October.
Currently living in a spaces apartment in an award winning suburban community. Outstanding library, shopping, recrational and public services, lots of trees and flowers, low to no crime rate. Accessible to downtown Cleveland, (my worksite), in 20-30 mins. Looking for a similar living situation near Jackson, MS. Critical job requires relocation in 20 days.

Look for an Apt or Townhouse around the Ross Barnett Reservoir. There is a lot of nice rentals there and will be a good spot for you to start looking for where you want to be. From the Lake to Downtown Jackson is 10-15 minute drive. Brandon or Ridgeland might have some apts or town homes.

I agree with Overqualified. Those are the safer areas in Jackson. However, I would check the smaller towns surrouding Jackson. Such as Pearl, Brandon, Ridgeland, and so forth. Some of the smaller towns are developing properties and with the access to the interstate just about everything is 30 to 45 minutes from each other. It just depends on what you want to be the closest to.

I reside in the north area of Jackson and I would suggest that you look for an apartment on in Ridgeland, Brandon, Pearl or Lakeland area. I would not suggest that you move to Yazoo City. Looking for an apartment will be hard and it is about a 40 minute commute Jackson. I kow because I work there as a teacher. There are some very nice areas the areas listed above. Try rent.com for pictures of the apt and just put in those area or try aptdir.com

Stay away from Ridgeland apartments. They are all dumps. Try Carlton Park in Flowood. Very secure and right in the center of Dogwood Festival shopping. You'll love it.

word on jackson
If you're young and educated, the only place to live in Jackson is near downtown. There is a neighborhood surrounded by two, small private colleges where Eudora Welty lived. Move there. You'll be close to work and some of the cool nightspots in downtown, like Hal and Mal's.
