Looks interesting. Sounded like housing was a bit high, from what Ive seen in other parts of the state. Besides seniors and college students does Oxford have any industry to support the cost of living?

After a quick trip to check local listings. I did notice that there were not a lot of homes in the 50 to 70k range that I've seen elsewhere in the state. I did however see a lot of great deals on mid range 120k - 140k. A lot of value for the money, provided you have it to begin with. I wonder how much research people do when they write articles for retirees. I'm still looking for a place to retire to for at least part of the year.

Sorry, I'm not from the area, so I can't answer your question. Hopefully, someone from the Oxford area can.

Housing costs are high because people from elsewhere have second homes in Oxford, which drives up the housing costs. There is some industry in Oxford. The town is swamped with lawyers. Also, there is a fairly large medical community there. There are some private companies there as well. In town, housing can be over $500/sq foot. However, in subdivisions outside of town, housing can be as little as $80-90/sq foot.

Thanks Tenn, It was what I suspected. My hometown suffers from something similar. Housing is very expensive but the economy isn't driving the prices. Its outside money and people coming in. Capitalism I guess. Myself Id like a quiet town that has an economy that is based on what is produced locally. I can always visit the "cool" places.
