Default Byram, MS???

How's Byram? They seem to have reasonably priced homes there.

Thanks!

Byram is just "ok". There is crime there but not as much as in Jackson. Flowood may be a better option for you. Same priced homes yet more shopping, restaurants, and very family friendly. Byram's problem is that it is right on I-55 and the business at the exits get robbed a lot. It's only a couple of hours to New Orleans from Byram and the Katrina crime has creeped into the area. Check out Flowood.

Jackson has for years attempted to incorporate Byram because of losing a lot of tax base and thinks Byram will be a quick fix.

Not knowing where you work or potential for good schools, I will just make the following suggestions. Stay out of Hinds county, completely. Look to Madison county particularly the cities of Madison and Ridgeland. Look in Rankin county to the cites of Flowood and Brandon.

Madison, Ridgeland and Flowood are in a boom right now. Many good schools, restaurants, better shopping, lower crime, nicer neighborhoods, and affordable housing. I believe Rankin county has lower taxes than Madison but it has been a while since I checked taxes lately.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Default Byram

Byram is a great place to live. It has traditionally been a small community that is experiencing a rapid growth. Traffic on Siwell road can at times be challenging during rush hours. Crime - I don't think we have as much as mentioned above. Yes, we are on I-55 but we do not have a lot of gun related crime.

Our neighborhoods are friendly. We have plenty of churchs. No, we don't have Dogwood Festival Mall and Northpark Mall, but we don't need it. You can have the holiday traffic and high tax base. We will take our large yards, lakes to fish and community gatherings.

We would never buy a home anywhere in Hinds County. Madison and Rankin Counties are good. The sewage treatment plant and Griffin Industries are located just off I-55 south of Jackson. We put the AC on recirculate when traveling south of Jackson. Flowood has the lowest property tax rate because of the high sales tax revenue, plus the state maintains highway 25. Traffic problems on highway 25 are very bad, but the state will be increasing the number of lanes.

Clinton is in Hinds county, and I think you would be happy there. If you don't have kids, I would recommend northeast Jackson (Fondren, Belhaven, Eastover, etc). You'll get more house for your money there, and you'd be centrally located.
