Used to be decent drag shows at Backstreet in Memphis, if you get to missing them too much. One of the bars in Tupelo was doing a drag night but I don't think it was very successful, it was around the hospital.

This is a sad story to hear. As a recent migrant to the state (from Pennsylvania to Ridgeland) who is heterosexual but sympathetic to the cause of any person whose liberties are restricted without just cause, I am surprised this happened.

Most of the people in the forum here seem to express that the real MS is not as it is portrayed in the Media. And I agree with them. It is distorted terribly and paints a very unfair portrait of the State.

But communities themselves must be willing to embrace diversity as well. We can't just tell other communities to stop perpetuating stereotypes and then go ahead and continue those behaviors in our own towns.

I hope that this whole thing was misunderstand and that upon an appeals process, justice will be served. Perhaps the bar owner is actually not financially qualified for the loan or something we aren't aware of? I think a proper and fair appeal will make this right.

Every time something happens that someone disagrees with or finds distasteful they always get to talking about the real Mississippi. As if the event didn't really happen in Mississippi, or as if it happened statewide by a vote of 100 to 0.

Google up "Gay Bar License Rejected". See if an event in Greenwich Village pops up first. It did for me. Are we now going to go searching for the real New York?

Shannon, a town of 1,753 people, denied a license for a gay bar. The board of aldermen, which functions a lot like the one in Greenwich Village, denied the license by a vote of 4 to 1.
So because of those 4 people, we have people who encourage us all to go around searching for the real Mississippi.

Sounds inane to me.
