Default young professionals in Jackson

Hi,

I'm a recent collage grad, and have been offered a job in Jackson. I have already lived in DC, and Baltimore, and I'm looking for something similiar. Not necessarily as extravagant, but a place with a lot of other young professionals, night life, and a good social scene.

Is Jackson similar to that? From reading the posts, it seems that it's not the most happening town, and somewhat crime infested. I mean baltimore is pretty bad as well, but there is still tons to do here. Please let me know how living in Jackson is for young professionals. Are there a lot of young people here, or mostly older couples and families?

Here we go again with another IMHO. Jackson, the city, stay out of (to live) unless you are going to work. As for places to reside, check out Brandon, Flowood, Madison/Ridgeland, Clinton. The most growing areas are Flowood and Madison/Ridgeland.

Night life and the likes, are better in the areas specified above. Life here in the deep south (Jackson, MS) is a lot slower than the other places you have resided. You will, after the initial cultural shock, adapt and probably learn to appreciate the lifestyle. There are activities for you here that you will most likely enjoy, but only after you do some networking and hook up with some locals, probably through work, church, or neighbors.

Happy hunting. OH, and welcome to City-Data, the greatest place on earth to live.
