That is completely out of the way if they are going from Jackson to Little Rock.

After leaving NOLA and turning north towards Jackson on I-55, you will pass We're with you through Thick or Thin!*|* Middendorf's Seafood Restaurant It's our favorite place to eat that is not in NOLA.

If you are into antiques, Ponchatoula has numerous shops. And if you are, then there is also another just after crossing the highway 82 bridge from MS to AR. Once in AR, Hoots BBQ in McGehee is good but there's little until you get to Little Rock.

If it was me and I wanted to see something, I would not drive I55. I would take smaller roads even if it is out of the way, but that's just me.

If I were going to visit Mississippi I'd start with a boat ride on the Pearl River. I would want to see alligators, huge Loggerhead Snapping Turtles, gargantuan sized Alligator Garfish, and big scary Water Moccasins. Then, under the cloak of darkness, I'd go on a quest for—Swamp Ape!

I'm not kidding. I think that, in-between all of the above activities, I'd stay at the Shack Up Inn. — Mississippi's oldest hotel where I would fill up on all that good food. Oh! Almost forgot the horseback riding.

ps
Obviously this would take more than a day. I'd not only wave to people, but get out of my car and chat it up with anyone who would talk to me.

What to do in Mississippi?

Absolutely nothing. Its one of the most boring states in the nation, mainly just swamp and bush, and it is THE poorest state in the nation. Too many toothless "rootin tootin" good ol boys and girls, and segregation is still present to its fullest. A backwards cesspit that many people wouldn't want to go to even if it was the last place on Earth... *wink wink*.

I take that is sarcasm, if it is I applaud you!

But, I do like the whole "home folks" feel of Mississippi. It's what initially turned me on to it.

There are only 3 places to cross from MS into AR. Highway 82 at Greenville will be the first for him/her. From there it is 2 hours to Little Rock. About 90 minutes north of Greenville is the bridge into Helena, AR. It's a good two hours to get to Memphis where the next two bridges are. By then, you are back tracking and having to drive southwest to get to Little Rock.

For a tourist, there are a lot of stops in the MS delta region. There are dozens of markers for the blues trail. Leland also has the Muppet Museum. Eating is a big past time in the area so the food will be great if you don't mind stopping at shacks and even sheds for a meal.

We are also considering going to Gulfport, but right now i'm leaning towards no.If there is anything that really interests me, i would consider spending an extra day in Mississippi.

You can go out in the swamp and moonshine ~

It was sarcasm.

There is a great Gulf Coast Cajun vibe on the coast, and all sorts of casinos were there around Biloxi.

Outlet mall in pearl. Also on your way up I-55 30 minutes before Jackson get off on the Hazlehurst exit and go about a half mile there will be a diner on the right near wal-mart. GET FOOD THERE. MANY A ARKANSAN CAN BE SEEN STOPPING THERE FOR THE GOOD FOOD. The mashed rutabaga is delicious.

Thumbs up on shack inn in Clarksdale. The wife and I are going next month. Good beer to. If you really want to experience true Americana Mississippi is the best place. I know people from Europe and Canada and they know this and about the rich true Americana heritage of the deep south. I wish more Americans knew that.
