[quote=Mouldy Old Schmo;36723600][quote=GrandviewGloria;36685553] The less financially savvy the athlete, the harder it is to make off with his money.

How can it that be? It would seem to me that the more financially astute athletes can keep their money from being stolen.
Quite right! Thanks for catching that! Totally made it past my proofreading... Downside of my multi-tasking... Yes! The whole point of giving tens of millions of Dollars to people with room-temperature-IQs, for doing nothing more important than running around doing things with balls, is the opportunity it creates for those who would steal those tens of millions. Nursing homes refer people to 'experts' like Palasini (who doubtless give them a bit of "under-the-table-money...wink wink!"
Just a little 'happy' for you, Hon, 'cause you've been so nice."
). And I'm sure that coaches and managers of pro teams steer their charges toward "reputable wealth-management specialists" - with various means of compensation for those referrals well hidden from sight.

Thanks again, for that correction!

Default The Magnificent Evans Brothers

Bank Robbery, White Collar Style!

I link to a whole series of articles on these apparent Grifters Extraordinaire. Depending on whose numbers are being quoted in which article, through 25 or so of their corporations, these two allegedly managed to bilk forty-some-odd banks in Mississippi and Texas out of maybe eighty million Dollars.

Jackson Jambalaya: Evans case

I am truly impressed. This was hitting the fan just as we were decamping for Oregon, and so it was lingering at the back of my mind. I knew I was forgetting something big. Complicated stuff - which is why they were able to get away with it for as long as they did.

Evans Brothers, I salute you!

Default McCrory to Epps: "Let Me Call You Sweetheart, in a SWEETHEART DEAL" (This is how Gloria imagines it...)

First, let's start with some background music from Pat Boone (who was enlisted by the War Machine, in the Viet Nam Era, to help force young American men into that pointless meat-grinder of a war - Boone ridiculing draft-dodgers, and - it seems to me - inciting acts of violence against them). You might want to open this song in a separate window, and listen while you read: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Vt-yPAeZKk (Pat & Shirley Boone: 'Let Me Call You Sweetheart')

And here's the story about the man who felt needed a Condo in Pass Christian, and a house on Shalom Way, in lily-white Flowood (and two big-ol' Mercedes). Well.... Aristotle Onassis used to say something like, "Always live in the best neighborhood - even if you have to live in an attic.". And as a nonwhite with ambition, I've been doing the same for most of my life - even going so far as to convert the attics of one of our apartment buildings to a "penthouse". So, I can't blame my fellow person-of-color, Mr. Epps, for choosing a condo among the Coast's 'Precious Few', and a Flowood address at which some of that "Chosen People Magic" might rub off on one who lived there. (I could have told Mr. Epps that Mazel doesn't work like Juju, though. It doesn't work like a Cargo Cult does. You have to perform mitzvahs - and frequently, they are their own rewards. Just because you build a fake airport and fake airplanes doesn't mean that big, shiny airplanes full of Lucky Strikes, Juicyfruit, and Spam will start landing there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gFKfqrdP6xs). And just because you live on a street named 'Shalom' don't make you chosen.

Inntyway... Anyone remember my recent posts describing the gangs running one of Mississippi's fine Correctional Institutions tearing out the walls to get at the rebar reinforcements... to obtain steel for forging home-made swords? Well, while that was going on, this seems to have been going on: Jackson Jambalaya: EPPS and McCrory indicted. Feds allege McCrory paid off Epps mortgage for sweetheart deals. There are other articles in that series, and I'm sure Kingfish will soon have a whole Epps Archive Section.

After seeing a movie about Onassis, I think that some secret advice he'd give young men would be, "And marry high-status women, even though you think girls are disgusting and guys are yummy. Think of your high-status brides as stepping-stones and trophies." An older Gay friend described a moment in the Eighties, when he was at Tulane, and a recently-elected (and now deceased) Mississippi politician was down visiting - hoping to get fixed-up with some secret same-sex contacts. A copy of Town & Country was on the coffee table, and the politician spotted a spread glorifying Nabila Kashoggi (this was back before her father Adnan fell out of favor with his benefactors). Well, Mr. Politico started carrying on about how beautiful and desirable was the ostensibly rich Nabila, and how he'd love to marry somebody like that...

And a while back, one of the husbands in our little group was in the lockerroom at a large Rankin County Gym. This was a big, multi-room lockerroom. There was a big black man talking to one of the Racquetball mainstays (whom someone later pointed out to me: a big Mediterranean-White megahottie - long hair, well-muscled, and my little birds say, "The parts you can't see, Gloria, won't disappoint.").

So, the man doing most of the talking was really, really loud. All my friend had to do was sit on his bench, shielded by lockers, and listen. The guy talking to the Mediterranean hottie was in charge of a prison/prisons, in some way (at the time, we were assuming 'Warden'). He was bragging about taking credit for the guys' bodybuilding ("They were doin' it anyway - It's all they got - I just found a way to get credit for it."). And he was describing gang rapes (seems they prefer Asians and Hispanics, because, to them, men in those groups look like adolescent girls...) in a way that led one to believe that he was a regular non-interfering witness, and possibly even complicit. He was describing gang-rape strategies - how they break-in the new victims - an attack on an Asian that lasted some unreal number of hours ("Heh, heh, they had to sew him back up...")... and on and on.

"I don't know, Gloria. I couldn't point the guy out in a lineup. Big, with a goodly amount of African heritage, well-spoken, masculine... I was in the other room. And this was years back. But there was so much sexual stuff in his running monologue, I kinda think he was hitting on the Spanishy-looking guy... probably barkin' up the wrong tree... Maybe he thought that just in case the guy was Sicilian or Jewish, he'd better get friendly, in case he could tap into that guy's connections somehow. Or maybe he thought the young guy was from one of those prominent Puro Castellano families in Northern Mexico, and was hoping to connect with a major cartel. Obviously, the guy talking was a master-schmoozer and had some angle in mind. But Racquetballers come in from surrounding states. This dude could have been from Tennessee or Louisiana - or Alabama. I just think it's funny he was telling all of that to a guy who looks like a rock star. I mean, why wasn't he talking for half-an-hour to one of the ugly old Racquetball Dudes?"

Hey, I'm just throwin' some puzzle-pieces onto the table. Pieces from one puzzle? Pieces from several puzzles? Misprints fished out of the puzzle-printer's dumpster? I make no representations...

And oh, LOOKA HERE! 511 Shalom Way, Flowood, MS 39232 - Zillow

Glory ROAD! It's in the HOLY LAND! (Lineage Lake, which has to have taken its cue from Landover Baptist's Exodus Acres, in Freehold, Iowa) 515 Shalom Way, Flowood, MS 39232 is For Sale - Zillow (I sure hope you've still got Pat Boone playing in the background, because it's the perfect music for window-shopping Lineage Lake.)

And that just proves that those late-nite-TV preachers are RIGHT! If you clothe yourself in righteousness, money miracles will happen, and others will pay off your mortgage for you.

__________
PS: I hope I get this in before the cutoff. Dowager Soybean Empress spotted this post and called to remind us all that none of this recent fire and brimstone would have rained-down upon poor Mr. Epps, if Exodus Acres... I mean Lineage Lake... only had Corinthian columns for its Bible-tymes Entrance Extravaganza. "Doric is bad luck. Corinthian is good look. Everybody knows that, Gloria. Doric is like painting a tincture of "Poverty of Spirit" on your doorpost instead of lamb's blood."

Default Grifter Greatness: McCrory/Epps Sweetheart Deals total nearly a BILLION

The magnitude of the unfolding revelations totally taxes my store of Shirley Temple expletives. "Goodness!" and "Heavens ta Betsy!" just are not adequate. What can I say, but "McCrory & Epps, sittin' in a tree, K I S S I N G." (figuratively, of course).

For ten whole years, and nobody noticed?

MDOC paid McCrory-linked firms close to $1B

I quickly tallied the totals listed in the article, and only came up with $675,000,000.00 in my head. That's not "nearly a billion". And I realize that plenty of the commercial developments around Madison are half-a-billion. A billion isn't what it used to be. Still, this is impressive.

Definitely though, McCrory and Epps (prosecutions pending) stand to be inducted into the hallowed halls of MISSISSIPPI'S GRIFTER GREATS. If this were the Junior League, they'd be Provisional Members. And truly... not since I saw the touching photos of Richard Nixon with his long-time confidant Bebe Rebozo - or read of the deep, DEEP friendship between Abraham Lincoln and William Herndon, have I felt so moved by a tale of manly teamwork. Gentlemen, I am IMPRESSED.

Oh, and here's the news conference where, officially, L'ordure frappe le ventilateur (and so everybody had to put on a nice tie). US Attorney press conference on Chris Epps case - YouTube And it only took 'em four years.

(And if I ever have a press conference and some jackass is whistling, I'll slap him nekkid.)

________
PS: earlier in the day I was reminded that as long as we were thinking about fine brick Pseudo-Cajunesque dream homes in Rankin County (and officers of the law, and missing eyebrows, and husbands who don't seem quite 'husband material' ), I should go equal-opportunity and link to the following tale of woe and strangely expensive houses: http://www.clarionledger.com/story/n...eputy/8092561/

According to Wikipedia in 2000 "lily white Flowood" was 79.92% white and 16.63% black.

Default Gina Palasini sentenced: after bouncing a $100,000.00 check to the Court.

Gina Palasini sentenced 10 years in bizarre hearing

I'd just like to know where the money is. So would the Judge. So would her victims, whose lives she has RUINED.

E 'possibile... But I have a feelin' this comic opera ain't over 'til the Fat Lady gets the shiv.

Of course, it would be infinitely better, if the Fat Lady would sing - and tell where she's (presumably) hidden the missing money, so that her victims could be compensated.
