Is Pearl, MS a safe place?
I am considering moving to the Pearl or Brandon area. I wanted to know if anyone already living there or has lived there liked it? Does it have relatively safe neighborhoods? What about the schools? I have checked other posts and I found no answers. Please help if anyone can.

Pearl is an older community within the Tri-County (Hinds, Madison, Rankin areas). There are some nice neighborhoods in Pearl with a decent school system. However, if you are looking for newer homes, better schools and resell value, I would suggest you consider Brandon or Flowood. Flowood being a first choice, along the Hwy 25/Lakeland Drive corridor, and Brandon the second option. Hope this will help.

Oh no, please dont move to the Jackson area this place is terrible lol. No, Jackson is okay if you do not have to live in a large metro area. Brandon/Pearl/Flowood would all be fine areas. As far as schools I would suggest Flowood so you could send kids to Northwest Rankin high school which is a great public school. At peak hours though traffic will be terrible on Lakeland Drive.

Only Jackson is terrible because of the high crime. The outlying areas are great.

Pearl/Jackson-crime discussion
I would never go as far to say that only Jackson is bad due to the crime, I would never say that any areas within Jackson are great. The crime in this city is in Hinds,Madison,Rankin counties. Someone can rob you in the burbs of Rankin and Madison county just as easy as they can in Hinds county. It happens everyday and is in the newspaper and on the news everynight.
Some areas are better than others true, just understand where you are moving and what you are getting into. The metro area of Jackson is not "fine or great" by any means. Jackson is very trashy, and boring. You will meet and fine some of the greatest people on earth here in Jackson, and some of the not so wonderful people on earth here in Jackson
If you do come to Jackson, move here with an open mind and always keep your bags packed for another great oppourtunity somewhere else. That is my philosphy, I don't have too much longer here. I am not trying to be negative, I just would like for you to see what Jackson is truly like, not some "koolaid version. Best of luck.

I totally agree. There is much crime in Madison, Ridgeland, Brandon, etc., because the thugs come from Jackson to those areas to rob. Makes sense since that's where the money is. Why rob in Jackson when you can make a hit on an unsuspecting rich doctor/lawyer type in Madison? My friend was robbed at Dogwood in Flowood while putting a package in her trunk. The man was from Jackson.

The difference is that the criminals usually get caught and convicted in Rankin and Madison counties.

Is this area a safe place?
Well I live in Rankin County and go to Northwest Rankin High. As far as the area I live in its pretty decent. As far as safety is concerned? Well I guess it matters what your definition of safe is. I have seen some pretty bad stuff go down everywhere here. With it being so close to Jackson it makes it easy for anyone to go get drugs and then sell them here. I have three people that I associate with that deal just in this part. Two just deal weed. One guy deals anything. I mean anything. He gets everything from Jackson. If you are worried about children, then understand it is VERY easy to get their hands on drugs here. Most people just drink at my highschool but I and others do a little more then just drink. The Jackson metro-area is ranked as one of the worst metro areas in the United States. I honestly do not think you will get into trouble as long as you are not looking for it. Forget moving anywhere into the Jackson area. There are some nice areas but overall, ha, not worth it. I recently went to the southern part of Jackson to get a tattoo. This is the absolute worst part of Jackson. Moderator cut: edit Where I went everything was what you would think as ghetto. Moderator cut: edit I did not see a cop within miles of coming into the area and leaving. All I know is I am glad I left before it got completley dark. When everyone there is high off of whatever drug, and no cops to be seen, well not a good sign. Madison, Brandon, and Flowood are the nicest areas. Do not get me wrong the education system here is extremly great. There are some great people here, and not so great people. Gang activity is mostly excluded to the Jackson area. If people think they are in a gang anywhere around Flowood or Madison then they are in something that was made up within their own clique. They would be killed if they tried that in Jackson. Sorry for such a long post but understand I have seen what goes on behind all the sugar-coated image. It can be a great place to live, a place I call home. But crime is always an issue.
