Most of the restraunts have closed. Best bet dining at the gambling boats and don't buy the gas here.

Yeah, Vicksburg historically doesn't do well with chain restaurants (minus fastfood). And that would be fine if their local restaurants stepped up to match their choice, style, and price, but unfortunately they don't.
There are a few that suffice if you're not looking to be fancy or wowed and can stand not finding a chain restaurant since most are locally owned or operated, but my experience is that service has never been great at most of these places (whatever the costs).
With that in mind, If I decide to (or have to) eat in V'burg, I do favor El Sombrero (mexican) and Garfields (pub, closest thing to a Ruby Tuesday or TGIFridays). I don't mind Ameristar, Isle of Capri, or Rainbow Casino. Of course you could spruce yourself up and go to a B&B restaurant like Walnut Hills or Cedar Grove.
Or if you want expanded choice, head 45 minutes to Jackson.
Have fun.

When I was a youngster, way long time ago, there was a restaurant in downtown Vicksburg where my family would eat all the time. I'm sure it's gone now, but maybe not. Anyway, all the waitstaff dressed to the intended times, say 1860s. And the food was good for the 1950s. Maybe the moderator, in his infinite wisdom, knows of the place I'm referring to?

Over a year ago Vicksburg blew its chances to have a Quizno's. They pulled out becouse of legel issues. But the new strip mall behind Walgreens turned out be ill constructed. Now Dan Waring tried to Get in a Starbucks. But no announcement on that one but I suspect he was turned down.

Thank you to all respondents.

Due to time & money contraints, my friend John & I drove as far as Monroe, LA 2.9.08 b/c of this great youtube video w/song "Monroe, LA is a Beer-Drinkin' Town" YouTube - Monrock Part One (& my love for actress Parker Posey who claims Laurel, MS as home which I drove to 1/12/08 after taking a plane from Dallas to Houston & a plane from Houston to Jackson for some friends' wedding.)

After some great pizza at the Johnny's Pizza House at 1700 Thomas Road in West Monroe, we went back to Tyler & crashed at our buddy's apt. then we drove home to McKinney & Denton the next day.

I almost vomited 3 X from the malodorous paper mill stench in Monroe!! Tho I'm glad I've been there, I won't ever be returning there...hope I can get to Vicksburg on a plane!!

Aw, man, you missed the best part. Next time, hook a left on US 165, go on up to Bastrop. Anyone who can live there has my condolences. I remember growing up in the MS Delta, if the wind was right, Bastrop was in the nose-holes.

Thanks Delta Planter-
I'm not optimistic I'll reach Bastrop but I'll do the best I can.

The best I can do is drive to Lake Charles (never been there or Bastrop) with my friend Rob Sat. 5/10/2008. In LA only been to Shreveport 2 X in 2006 & once in 2008 2 mos. ago & Monroe once in 2008 2 mos. ago all by car & New Orleans by plane 2002...it's gotta get fixed again A.S.A.P.!!

Talk to you later,
fallguy
