Thanks in advance.

I grew up in Greenwood. I no longer live there for several reasons. This is one of the most important ones: The entire world seems to be moving forward; The delta is doing the opposite.

Before this turns into another thread bashing the Delta, what type information are you asking for?

Oldenfatt, I'm not interested in bashing the Delta. I'm a blues musician and a big blues fan. I grew up all my life listening to music by people from the MS Delta and I'm just asking what it's like in those 2 towns, not the Delta in general. Scenic, friendly, historic, etc...

Clarksdale is a rural town that is like a third world country. I'm amazed every time I visit that I'm still in America. That said, there is a lot of culture there and is worth a visit. It is scenic in a decaying faded beauty sort of way. People are very friendly there, though most of the town is very uneducated. There is a lot of blues history. Greenwood is the nicer town of the Delta and has some culture as well (not as much as Clarksdale). Are you planning to move or just visit?

We're planning to move to MS as soon as our house here sells, by summer, but probably just visit Clarksdale. I've always wanted to spend some time in MS and see what it's really like, not the stereotypes or tourist hype. We think we'll really like MS people. My wife's ready to stop working so it's now or never.

I wouldn't recommend moving to the Delta. The taxpaying class is rapidly leaving and the bottom 75% don't seem to be doing anything to improve their lives. The number of taxpayers is rapidly decreasing, yet the demand for services is not. Still, you could find a nice rural farm for cheap if you are interested in living a rural life. Other places in Mississippi have a much better future ahead of them.

I wouldn't recommend that farm purchase. That same non-taxpaying majority has been filling up county boards of Supervisors with their candidates. Taxes are going higher and higher on farmland to pay for all the social services, pushing even more taxpayers out.

Oh jeez---here we go with the racism again. Who would that "non-tax paying majority be?" I would wager that everyone who has been elected to county boards of supervisors pays taxes.

My Dad is from Clarksdale and I'd recommend visiting before you make a decision to move. It is a great place to visit, but there is no way I'd ever live there. Greenwood was not so great either, but has some revitalization going on downtown and would probably be better than Clarksdale. Either way, definitely visit before your decision. There is still blues culture around without a doubt, but it is slowly fading away to the more popular urban/hip hop culture, in my opinion.
