I forgot to tell y'all I was in MS last month.

I didn't go in too far this time, just Horn Lake, Hernando and Senatobia. Had supper with jhadorn.

Had a round of job interviews in Memphis. It went well, but I never heard back from any of them.

So now I am looking at other parts of the state.

Pontotoc? Tupelo? Hattiesburg? The Coast?

I need good suggestions here.

My wife and I like the coast and we will most likely end up there, however, the job market seems to be small. I have been on the job boards and there isn't much to offer, at least in the IT field. I make decent money and am not willing to take a big pay cut to move there. Maybe it depends on what type of job you are looking for. Lots of restaurants and casinos there.

What kind of employment are you seeking, retail?

Surely you realize the economy in AZ is much better in than Mississippi (which likely has the worst economy in the country)?

What's your endgame? Tupelo is much different from Hattiesburg and both are much different from the coast.

Actually no, the area I live in is rural and 3 hours East of Phoenix. The economy here is crap.

Well, I'm looking into professional/office work, I've personally met with jhadorn to talk about this. A place like Tupelo would be great to work out of, but I know little of the situation in Hattiesburg or down on the coast and that is why I am fishing for opinions here.

The good thing about MS is the low cost of living. If you have a job lined up, no problem. Making a six figure income in the Miss is like being a king (except for the state income tax).
If you don't have a job lined up, then that's a problem.
I always liked Tupelo however.

Tupelo is being considered, but I know little of that part of the state.

Don't know what your job type is in the IT area but Hattiesburg has two universities that employ tech people. I live in Hattiesburg and it is a well-rounded community for work, leisure, and social life. Lovely residential areas from historic district to lakeside. Many come from other states to retire here. Not saying there are no drawbacks but worth investigating. The coast casinos are another option. Many folks like the atmosphere of Oxford home of Ole Miss.

Elvis was born there and Van Morrison seems to have liked it (or at least the product of the gum tree bee hives ingenious to that area):

"She's as sweet as Tupelo honey
She's an angel of the first degree
She's as sweet as Tupelo honey
Just like the honey, from the bee
She's alright, she's alright with me"

They have a cool corvette show in the spring and some beautiful rolling Alabama countryside to the east and a very small airport. That's the sum total extent of my knowledge. Oh also is the Natchez Trace scenic road goes through it.

Ya know, the "All American City". Doesn't our Listener live there? Maybe he has an opinion.
