let's say a tall (6 foot 4) willowy man of a mixed race (caramel colored skin, thick lips) and mid-western accent in his early 20s moved into your town (a small town in Mississippi, but it could be anywhere in the southern USA).

When you try to talk to him, he is polite but he keeps the conversations short before moving on.

He walks around town with his shirt off, either walking around or riding his bike around, and he never talks to anyone.

You never see him at ANY of the town events, or festivals or any of that.

How would you react to that? and how do you think other people in the town would react? Would they stalk him and try to find out more information on him or something? Or would they just not care at all?

Please share your thoughts and opinions.

ALSO, imagine him looking like this, except with eyes a bit larger/rounder and dark green colored iris.
AND WITHOUT THE EAR PIERCING and with red or black basket ball shorts on instead:

^Also as 6 foot 4, but just a slim as he is in that pic.

Find out his name and see if he's on the registered sex offenders list.

Cross the street when he walks your way.

because he's not gross to look at and he doesn't like wearing one.
He only wears a pair of shorts and a pair of shoes when he goes out walking or bike riding.
when its cold outside he has one on however.
And also he wears a shirt when he's shopping for stuff at Walmart.

but when he's just outside wandering around, he doesn't have one on. He also doesn't look at people when he walks around either. he just stares at his phone or looks straight ahead, or up at the sky while he's walking around. and he stays on the side of the road without wandering into people's yards.

First of all, small towns in Mississippi seldom have festivals and events. And the few 'festivals' there are, are more matters of duty & DREAD, than things people really want to participate in. People go to church. They go to work. They go to WalMart. And they fool with all the ENDLESS needs and activities of their kids and grandkids. That's about it.

They only "go to games", if their kids are participating. They only go to beauty pageants, if their kids are participating. There are no movie theatres in most towns, because much of the populace is too loud and aggressive.

People avoid local eateries, because they really don't want to interact with the other people in their communities. They've learned the hard way, that the less contact with local folks, the less likely they'll be identified as good targets for rape or robbery, the less likely some "outgoing" person will become their "best friend" - just long enough to sell them an insurance policy, the less likely they'll be hit-up for donations for somebody's kid dying of Leukemia, the less likely somebody from different church will try to "share Jesus" with them, and the less likely they are, of getting into an altercation, and having the husband of the family sent off to be gang-raped in prison, for defending his family. 'Eating Out' means going to a drive-thru window.

Everybody lives in his or her own bubble. Except for the poorest of the poor, and the oldest of the old, everybody is glued to a computer or a smartphone. The kids are on social media or whatever. The husbands are looking at naked women (or men), and maybe trying to hook up with them - or they're on sites devoted to sports or hunting or politics. The wives are on Facebook, sharing pics of everybody's children and baby parties and weddings, and posting WAAAAY too much information about everybody.

People who can afford decent cars, routinely drive past two or three small towns, on the way to whatever they're going to do. They go to the churches they consider appropriate for THEM. They go to the big WalMart, thirty miles away, because they're less likely to have to fool with any of their neighbors. They drive to the private school that's for THEIR socioeconomic bracket. Everybody's in their own carefully-constructed bubbles.

So, nobody would notice, if this guy avoided local gatherings. Because pretty-much EVERYBODY avoids local gatherings.

And the only people likely to take notice of the guy, would be his neighbors, proprietors of the gas station/convenience stores, local law enforcement, local gangs/groups of 'under-served youths' and the very few people who hang out in public places (winos, mentally ill, dementia cases).

But assuming that two people capable of rational thought and intelligible speech, happened to discuss the guy, it would be assumed that he was raised by a single mother, barricaded in an apartment (as so many are) in order to keep him away from bullies and gangs. That would explain his shyness. It would also be assumed that he was Gay - which would actually be a POSITIVE, in the minds of most people - making him less of a threat. The basketball shorts would be a scary note, and so maybe someone would assume he had BEEN in a gang - or was "special needs". But basically, it would be assumed that he was down from Detroit or Chicago or Gary, sent to live with a relative, to get away from some sort of trouble in the big city.

It would NOT be assumed that he was up to no good, any more than would be any of the other young men of his description in the town. And it would be those OTHER YOUNG MEN who'd be making trouble for him (if they assumed he was Gay, or 'special needs', or in some other way vulnerable).

But the more I think about it, I doubt that he'd ride/walk around town like that, for very long. Either local law enforcement would make him uncomfortable (and explain to him, after checking him out, the dangers of being too exposed, in a small town in Mississippi), or the local " under-served youths" would brutalize him in some way, before the police had a chance to warn him. Or, the local gangs would either recruit him or kill him.

Good God, if I moved into any small town anywhere, I'd be the recluse. I'm just totally introverted. So someone else who acts introverted wouldn't bother me a bit.

Course, I'd be arrested if I walked around with my shirt off.
