You do realize you are writing about the United States, a country that started out as part of Great Brittian?

Is there no critical thinking anymore?

Don't blindly believe what you read or hear, think for yourself.

I think it boiled down to a war-torn country being 'nice' to each other, and attempting to move on.
Please don't reduce me to just a liberal. I have a vast range of political ideas that could make me a conservative. I am a firm supporter of everyone having the right to conceal carry without a license.

Anyway, I agree. They didn't charge than with treason because they wanted the country back together. It's essentially a failed rebellion that somehow Americans support.

Uh, when was the area of land that became the United States, ever part of Great Britain?

Never. These were colonies, owned by Britain, but never a part of Britain. Colonies all across the world fought against Britain for independence. That's a far cry from deciding you don't like the laws of the country you're a part of, and decide to secede.

Oh, ok, I was just reading a book about the American Revolution, didn't realize it is fiction. Thanks for letting me know we weren't under British rule and it didn't require military action, a rebellion, to terminate that rule. A lot of books will need to be revised.

I just reported ipkl07 for trolling (basically). More specifically for snide remarks that add nothing to the discussion.

BTW, I looked through your posting history, and you strongly favor removals of confederate statues - which makes this post strange, since this is about a Mississippi city removing a statue, you'd be the first to say "Congrats!". That, of course, assumes you did read the OP, which maybe you didn't.

The colonies were not a part of Britain. The colonies did not get any of the benefits of being part of the country of England/Great Britain. Do you not remember "taxation without representation?"

The colonies were owned by Britain, ruled by Britain, but were not a part of Britain. Do you not see the difference?

When fighting a war, that part really doesn't matter. Britain wanted to maintain control, and the colonies wanted to govern themselves. To claim the king didn't have rule over you was treason.

You're arguing a non-existent point.

A colony fighting against its ruling country is not treason.

The South fighting against its own country, is treason.

That's the point.
