This was to help the State of Alabama (TMMAL) plant.
This was a lobbying ploy by the Governor of Mississippi to boost the econmy of Alabama.
This plant (TMMAL) was opened in 2007 right before the Ms. elections to get the MS. governor elected-Re-elected for another term.

Wow. I hadn't hear that it was "for sale". I knew they had delayed the opening indefinitely. Last time I drove by there it was completely dead. Nothing at all was going on. It's really sad. I know Tupelo as well as Pontotoc, Sherman, and even Oxford were really counting on the plant to boost the economy.

The media hasn't said anything about the Toyota plant being for sale. Until a credible news source actually breaks a story, it is just another unfounded rumor. By the way, the VW plant in Chattanooga will not start production until sometime in 2011.

An article today at bloomberg.com quotes unnamed sources saying that Toyota is now planning on building the Prius at an existing plant in California. It sounds like the company is not in any hurry to finish the Blue Springs plant, and may even not make the Prius there at all. So I guess the expected boon to the Tupelo economy is going to be on hold for even longer than was originally expected.
