So glad you are bringing some youth down. As a misplaced Mississippian (grew up in the Pass...uh that would be Pass Christian, for non locals), I long to go back and was there off and on with groups of volunteers after Katrina. There is still much to be done. Not sure who you are working with/through but I hope you've made arrangements with some organization down there to line you up with work. If not, post here and I can get you in touch with someone down there.
Anyway--for your teens on the "day" off. How about a ship excursion to Ship Island? It has a revolutionary war fort out there that believe it or not apparently survived Katrina! It's also a great island for sun and fun...once you get past the barrier islands the water is much nicer (and clearer!).
As for what to take: gloves, sunscreen, and even though it's hot be sure to take a pair of long pants, depending on what work you'll be doing. Also some sturdy shoes. And lots and lots of water...oh...never mind...purchase all the things you need in MS and help the economy!
