I'm getting OT, but have you been to Big Bend National Park? It's beautiful!

With good reason.

I’m somewhat aware of the better jobs along the Mississippi coast, having worked in Pascagoula. But things look pretty dismal to me. Some areas have yet to fully recover from Katrina, I assume because many people neglected to buy flood insurance. West of Bay St. Louis I saw areas that were once houses now overgrown with scrub and many empty lots are evident in Long Beach.

And the quality of the food at the Cajun Crawfish Hut in Long Beach has drastically declined.

Church attendance in Mississippi is among the highest in the nation. But looking at Census reports is the best evidence of the Delta’s population decline.

Dude, you'll fit right in, you and your brother sound like 99% of our current population!

Thanks, I think. I know two more poor people moving to the state is nothing to get excited about

I see two solvent people talking about moving in.
And that's nice.

I wonder if even our most, prosperous towns are having a hard time holding on to their young ‘uns.

Moved from a small, rural county to go to USM. Then moved to "thriving" Rankin county and got a job after graduating.

I consider everyone that has left and never looked back the lucky ones. This is the most backwards, boring place on this Earth.

There is absolutely no hope for the future. There's absolutely no plan to retain the younger generations or improve the crumbling communities and infrastructure. My dad says "if you don't like it.. leave." That's what everyone does. They're the smart ones.

I'm the dumb one. Because here I am. Man what I would give to get out of this place. My advice to anyone that wants to get out of here -- don't marry someone that has no desire to leave. Because then you'll be stuck. Forever. Just like me. Spinning your wheels as you sink further into the mud. Exactly like the entire state of Mississippi.

Now I'm told I can't leave because I have a child. If I pack up my family and leave, I'm robbing my child's grandparents of their grandchild.

That's probably the dumbest reason I have ever heard for staying somewhere you don't want to be.
