It's cool in the upper Smokies though. I once went there is August, and there was still snow in the roadside ditches in August.
Yeah you’ve got to get over towards Waynesville, NC to really feel a difference.

I remember the first time I went to the Smokies as a kid, it was like 98 degrees in Gatlinburg, we got in the car and drove 20 minutes up the mountain to NewFound Gap, and it was probably a 30 degree drop.

Sheena, I responded to your query, but somehow managed to post it in the 'Jackson' forum, in the 'Riverside Drive, Worst to Best' thread. Sorry... I'm having Jet Lag, and was on a cardio machine in a strange building, waiting to get sleepy.

Absolutely NOT true. They are both beautiful. The thing about Orange Beach is the area is not nearly as crowded usually. I AM FROM THE AREA and know it EXTREMELY well.

I'd say Gulf Shores, AL. Mississippi does not have a good coast, but there is a casino area and good food. But being from MS, I would always drive to Gulf Shores. It's worth it.
