With all the problems California is having - mostly the result of tens of millions of people living in an earthquake-prone land that is mostly desert - I’m glad to live in Mississippi. The gap between rich and poor is much greater in California than it is here. Real estate is vastly more expensive over there, as are taxes. God bless the people of California and Mississippi.

I did some research on my family and discovered my maternal great-grandmother was born in Itawamba County, Mississippi. There's even a family cemetery. My great-great grandfather and four of his brothers fought in the Mississippi Confederate Army too. I had no idea I had so many ties to that state. Can't wait to visit one day - I'm sure its going to be an amazing experience!

If you PM me, I'd be happy to drive over and see if I can find the cemetery for you and take some pictures. Itawamba County changes very slowly and a lot of times those old family plots are left alone as people just build around it.

Oh, thank you, but I know where its at (just outside Fulton). A distant cousin from the same line communicated with me. She lives in Mississippi and said she would meet me when I come out. She sent me pics - it has my great-great-father's headstone and a little wrought iron fence and gate around it with the family name. Pretty cool! We don't have old family cemeteries in California (to my knowledge).

No offense, but I strongly disagree. The Coast is better now than pre-Katrina, the casinos are a big part of that. The Coast is one of the few areas in MS that is prospering.

AND I strongly disagree with YOU! Perhaps, you are too young to remember the local seafood restaurants, the quaint shops, etc.. The casinos have completely changed the dynamic. While they have brought increased revenue for the state, they have brought many undesirable things..

What is prospering on the Coast?

I ride down Beach Blvd and just see slab after slab of places that used to be...
