Tunica casino/hotel help please
My wife and I will be visiting Mississippi soon, and are looking into Tunica. We have seen adds for different places, and have read mixed reviews. What is a good casino/hotel to stay in if you are 30, want to pay less than $200 per night, and want the food, games, etc. to be right there. We aren't much into card games, mostly machines. Any input is appreciated.

If you have a choice I would go to the casinos in Biloxi and Gulfport instead of Tunica. I've been to both locations and I just was much more impressed with Biloxi and Gulfport. In Tunica I was accosted by people asking for money both inside and outside the casino. The clientele seemed much better along the coast.

I've been going to the casinos in Tunica since I moved to the area almost 8 years ago and this has never happened to me. My wife and I like to spend a weekend at the Gold Strike but will eat the buffet at the Horseshoe. Gambling is split between the two casinos. It's nice since they are about 50 feet apart.

Tunica is located in the heart of the MS delta . Hwy 61 is famous for its blues history. When you talk about MS this is the region that comes to mind. Why go to the Gulf Coast nearly 300 miles away? There are rooms available for far less than 200 per night, however; these rates only apply for weekdays.Welcome to the MS delta and enjoy you stay.

Gold Strike and Horseshoe are probably the "youngest" casinos in terms of who goes there and the type of clintele they market to. They are very lively and both have steakhouses and buffets, along with food courts. Sheraton is also right next door to those two.
I have never seen people begging for money in the thousands of times I have been to the casinos. How would bums ever GET to the casinos? They are out in the middle of farm-land, 30 miles from Memphis.

Well I can assure you it happened - twice - once inside and once outside - by two different people. They weren't homeless people, apparently people who had lost their money in the casino and they were desperate.

I love Tunica...We stayed at the Gold Strike and loved our room and very friendly staff...I heard that Paula Deen opened a buffet in one of the casinos, that would be great to try...Also the Gold Strike has an OUTSTANDING Brunch on the weekend you have to try if you get a chance.

We stayed at the Horse Shoe and enjoyed our stay and never dealt with any seedy characters. We took a boat ride and jumped around to various casino's,never a creepy feeling. We are totally recreational players. There penny slots payed well and were fun.I have offer from Imperial Palace for $39 per nite which I might use.I like security and garage parking. Not as nice as Horseshoe.

Paula's new buffet will be in Harrah's Casino (formerly The Grand). Advertising for the name change is in progress right now with the kick-off party later in the month headlined by ZZ Top.

I believe May 23 is the official opening days of Harrah's. Seems like they will have some good new restaurants and bars according to their website.
