Default DeSoto County Rentals

Need some advice about rentals in Southaven, Olive Branch and DeSoto County. I'm relocating there (to Southaven) in a few weeks and would like to find a place to stay while my wife is getting our affairs together in Iowa.

Since we're still paying a mortgage in Iowa, I'd like to keep the rent fairly low, but am still looking for a nice place to stay until our Iowa home is sold and we can move everything down there.

Any advice would be appreciated; I'm planning to move down on July 1st.

We'd also like to get some help on home or duplex rentals in the area. It would still be sometime before we get to that point, but I'd like to be keeping an eye out for a home rental for when my wife arrives. We're thinking about renting until we both are established and feel we're ready to plunge back into the home ownership market.

Thanks...feel free to post here or private message me if possible.

Civic Center apartments are nice but not cheap; however, they have shorter 6-month leases. You could always do a Residence Inn-type place in Memphis.

There some units on Rasco Road in Greenbrook subdivision in Southaven that include utilities and are furnished. I think it's called Almost Home. $250-ish per week. No long-term leases. I only know because I live in that area. 662.796.7001 but don't know if that is a current number.

Rent if you'd like once your wife arrives, but it is a major buyers' market here. Foreclosures from retards getting AMRs and interest-only loans. But again, Civic Center apartments for you both would work if you don't want to buy now. Nice amenities.

The rent here is pretty expensive. It's not like it used to be. Go online to the Desoto Times Online and you can possibly luck up on some private rentals at a cheaper price. If you go through a property management company, you will pay through the nose.

I don't think low rent exists in this area. We moved to the Southaven area in November 07. Civic Center, The Hamilton, Savannah Creek. They all offer 6 month contracts and they are all nice.

Default Thanks for your help!

Thanks for your input. Regarding previous comments, my job is such that I can't take advantage of the housing market right away, I'd much rather rent initially and see if it looks like we're going to be here for more than a couple of years before I'd want to jump back into the housing market again. It would be much easier to move from a place that's being rented than having to go through the hassle of selling a place again, which I'm doing right now and not enjoying very well.

As far as rent prices are concerned, there are some cases where rent may be considered high, but from what I've been used to, they are not terrifically outrageous. Demand drives the rates and there's obviously a demand right now. The rent rates for most places I have run into thus far are comparable to what people in western Iowa were paying.

You can expect to pay around 800-900 for a 2 bedroom approx 1000 sq ft.
