Diamondhead is a beautiful area and probably can incorporate the desire for a horse and the fishing. St. Stanislaus on the beach in Bay St. Louis is an excellent school (only a short drive from D'head). My son has attended there for 3 years and I could not be happier. You'll find that both of your children will be challenged by the curriculum.
I agree that the area is definitely different since the storm but it's gradually coming back to life. I travel extensively and don't find the litter problem to be much different than other places. The local paper keeps the problem in the forefront which has helped it get better.
The statistics that rate MS last in everything unfortunately use the entire state and not just the Gulf Coast to gather information. I'm sure some people won't be happy with me for saying this but the coast is a world away from the rest of the state. We have people from everywhere with the casinos, air force, and government contractors making the area much more diverse than the rest of the state.
I have friends who are teachers that tell me they have parents that come in and are so worried their child will be so much ahead because they've been educated in states that supposedly have wonderful schools (such as CA) but in reality a lot of these kids are right in line with their MS peers and sometimes struggle to keep up.
Good luck and welcome to our state!

If you don't mind me asking, where are you moving from in FL? I want to move from MS to FL. I am looking at Brevard County.

Default Thank you

Thank you for all of the information. We are rethinking everything and want to look more into making a big change. I will take all of your advise into consideration and make a few trips to some of the suggested areas and see what I come up with. Again, getting this input is a big help. It is hard when you have never been to a place and don't even know where to begin.

We live in the northern Palm Beach County. I love it here although it has become more congested. Many people from Dade and Broward County are moving north to get away from the overcrowding.
Brevard County is another area of interest. We have been looking around Merritt Island. It really depends on the type of lifestyle you enjoy. We are not into the city life more rural but always want to be close enough to enjoy boating. I hope this helps.
