I have a few questions about Long Beach.
What kind of jobs are available there? Is it easy to find a job there? How much do the houses in good areas cost? Are there any areas in Long Beach that didn't flood? Is there a lot of crime in Long Beach? What are some restaurants in Long Beach that you would recommend? Do you see any alligators or other wildlife in Long Beach? I'm sure you can tell by my name, but I think that alligators are fascinating animals and would like to see one from a safe distance. |

I have friends who live in Long Beach. Long Beach runs into Gulfport. It also borders Pass Christian. Jobs- not too much in LB but, Gulfport depending on what you do for a living. I have not been there since Katrina. Probably get a good house for about 2K, maybe less relly do not know. Yes, there are areas of LB that did not flood. Restaurants, could give you some, but guess we are not suppossed to do that on here. Could not tell you about alligators, sure there are, have seen them in Waveland which is about 20 minutes form LB. Good luck

We are relocating to that area. We recently went down for a visit and to buy a house. We decided on Pass Christian, right next door to Long Beach. We looked at a few houses in Long Beach, and I'd guess you could find a house for 150K+. It depends on what you're looking for. As far as jobs, I don't know, but I'd be surprised if there were a lot there. It seemed like a pretty quiet town. Now Gulfport and Biloxi are easy commutes and they had a lot more business going on there. Casinos do employ a lot of people down there. Long Beach didn't seem as damaged by the storm as Pass Christian and Bay St Louis. None of the houses we looked at in Long Beach had flood damage. The public school district there is one of the top districts in the state (good for your house resale value, if nothing else). We ate at a cute little restaurant on the main strip of town across from the Hancock Bank. It was fried fish and poboys. Good food. If you're looking for wildlife, I think that the MS coast is a good area. The towns are small and it is easy to get out into the middle of nowhere. You can catch a ferry from Gulfport, I hear, to the National Park chain of barrier islands. Also, Long Beach is no more than 30 minutes to Louisiana, and there you can do airboat rides in the swamps. My hotel had pamphlets for tons of swamp tours you can take where they say you'll see gators. You really should just go down for a visit and check out neighboring towns as well.

MODERATOR: You may give recommendations on restaurants...to clarify, Admin doesn't want anyone giving "back door advertising" to any one particular establishment, particularly by owners or people having a fiduciary interest in the success of any business. Those posts will be deleted...agendas are usually found pretty quickly! Other than that, it is okay...if you have a negative experience you may say "I had poor service", but please don't say "Betty Lou the waitress is a slob"...defamation and all...

sorry, did not know, there used to be a place seafood restaraunt Chappy's which was excellent, not sure if they are still in business. My favorite, if you like casinos they are pretty good, but buffet and often not as well seasoned as I would like. good luick |

Pass Christian is a great place, still shows signs of devastation from Katrina, the place was pretty much erased.. lots of new building going on.. make sure your home has been gutted and repaired, that whole area was under 20-30 feet of water. Oh if you want a quick sign of how bad Katrina was, drive 90 from the just over the bridge into bay Saint Louis, and look for the old Hancock bank. All that is left is the safe in the field, where the building used to be. Next to it is a huge 2-3 story building, with a mural and some ivy growing on its side... its just past downtown Bay Saint Louis. Enjoy your new home and the region.. I sure did.. and wish I was back there now. |
