I was born in Meridian and then my family moved to Kosciusko, MS for 10 years...then we moved back to the Meridian area to Collinsville, MS and I started 5th grade at West Lauderdale Middle School and I graduated from West Lauderdale High School. If you're moving to the Meridian area, West Lauderdale is definitely the school district to move to. It's top ranked and just a really good school to be in. West Lauderdale used to be a 3A school and WL excelled in all sports...In 2004 (the last year in 3A) WL was 3A South State Champs in Football...WL has been a 4A school for 4 years now and WL has won 2 4A State Championships in baseball since, making 12 State Championships in baseball under the direction of 2007 National Coach of the Year Jerry Boatner! West is definitely the place to be...Clarkdale is also a good school to go to. Many people have alot of negative things to say about Meridian but I look for the good in things and I honestly see alot of potential for Meridian and am already seeing some of it being carried out. Meridian's big project right now is the revitalization of downtown Meridian...downtown Meridian is designed kinda like New York City...streets and avenues. For a city of 40,000 people, Meridian has 3 hospitals, 1 state hospital, and 1 pshyciatric hospital. Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center is a 260 bed hospital and is designated as a Level III. Trauma Center. Rush Foundation Hospital is a 215 bed hospital and has recently been upgraded to a Level II. Trauma Center. Riley Hospital is a 140 bed hospital and has recently been upgraded from a Level IV. to a Level III. Trauma Center. Meridian is very capable of caring for many health and emergency needs and thanks to AirCare and Metro Ambulance, we can send patients in need of special care to the University Medical Center in Jackson, the only Level I. Trauma Center in the state.
