For me coming from Scotland to the U.S wasn't exactly a culture shock as there are alot of similarities with the U.S and here anyway.
But when I travelled to MS It was kinda a culture shock, I never knew there were places that looks so under developed or how it there was no structure or progressiveness. As if there was a time warp. Everything was based around religion, we're religious but some take wayyyy too far.
I met alot of really nice and welcoming people that thought English was my 2nd language, i was suprised that those individuals had never heard of Scotland. Then that brought up education where my fiance moved from MS when he was 9 to attend HS in Kentucky. I know there is a grave education problem there.
Also, the food there i have to say was amazing. I think if i lived there i would be 10 tonne
Climate was just perfect for me but my only gripe was that theres alot of poverty there compared to any other place i've been to which is shocking for the U.S especially. If i could help change that i would. My fiance and I have had these discussions before he has been very open about it and admitted that MS was less disirable then here because he has been here for so long.
My question is, has MS changed at all since I was last there (4 years ago) Is there plans for developement? Are people are touchy about religion and alcohol?
I'm planning a trip on March time to visit my in laws.
To summerise, I think MS is beautiful but there are alot of negatives to go with it, especially like me you come from a very different nation that has alot of positives, apart from the weather!
I did visit SC but I did love it there, from what i saw it was more progressive but correct me if im wrong.
Furthermore, this isn't in any way meant to offend but this was just my take on visiting MS and what I thought. Comparing MS to other states and my own country. I did hear that MS is great for older people, retirees. But for young people like me? I think it would take alot to beat Glasgows pubs, restaurants, shopping by a mile and thats just one city.
