Vicksburg.......
I read recently that Vicksburg economy is booming and the area is growing....the article gave no details or examples, however. When I look through the Jackson/Vickburg papers, I see very few jobs listed in the 'help wanted'; the MS Employment Commission also lists very few jobs in that area. Is there somewhere else I could look to get a better idea of opportunities there?
Can someone tell me what is 'booming' in Vicksburg? What type of work is available (other than casino work)? We visited there years ago and loved the looks and atmosphere of the area. It's on our 'short list' for relocation if we can find work there (blue collar and office work) that pays enough for a comfortable living.

Have you taken a look-see here? http://www.city-data.com/city/Vicksburg-Mississippi.html
I've not heard or read a whole lot of good about the area, lately. But I agree, it IS a beautiful area. Good Luck!

I saw on the news this week that Vicksburg is booming. They were talking about how many manufacturing plants there are there.

Vicksburg is 'booming'? That's news to me... we have the Waterways Experiment Station, the casinos, and... a Wal-mart Super Center.
I lived in Vicksburg for a few months back in 2001, and then relocated here a year ago due to my job. It's a small, very beautiful city; really quiet and peaceful. But as far as "booming" goes, I really don't know what the article meant...

Vicksburg is booming with new hotels and casino construction, I noticed that much a few weeks back. Otherwise, I don't know what all the fuss is about. Vicksburg looks and feels about the same as when I was a kid growing up there.

I live in Vicksburg and find that there are many opportunities here. There are some great opportunities in the downtown area if you have the money to invest in an older building and refurb it. There are lots of new hotels and blue collar jobs as well. We have a lot of manufacturing jobs on our local harbor project (Anderson-Tully Lumber, Ergon, Inc. and there is a new ethanol plant as well. Most advertise in the Vicksburg Post. Google Vicksburg Post and you may find more jobs. Our local hospital is always looking as well. I really would not say 'booming', but things are looking up for us!

My family is considering relocating to Vicksburg. How are the schools? Are they hiring teachers? I currently teach special education in Michigan. My youngest son plays soccer. Are there teams down there?

Both of my children go to public schools in Vicksburg and we have been very pleased. You will find those who complain, but I have always supported our public schools and feel that you get out of it what you put into it. We are involved in Vicksburg Soccer Organization as well. VSO is an all volunteer organization and tho it has it's faults, the parents do everything and everyone certainly tries their best. I am sure you could find work here teaching.
