Default Confused about...SOUTH Jackson area

Hey

During my visit to Mississippi, I remember driving on Gore Rd.,
Broadwater Rd., Springridge Rd. in SOUTH JACKSON.

These places looked very beautiful, green and sparce.

There seemed to be some farming as well--but I couldn't actually
see the people in these areas. I'm going by how things looked.

On the forums, people keeping saying that "SOUTH JACKSON" is the bad part of Jackson.

Many of the Blacks I've talked to say S.J. is riddled with crime and ghettos (I am Afr. Amer.).

I'm wondering if they mean "downtown Jackson area" when they refer
to South Jackson???

Why does everyone want to live in North Jackson but not South Jackson?

Can somebody tell "Specifically" what the really bad areas of Jackson
City are? By bad I mean "rundown looking," full of poverty and dangerous
at night.

Looks can be deceiving.

Was I fooled by the serene green acres along Siwell and Broadwater???

A lot of the area down Raymond Rd and Terry Rd is where the crime is. The area you're talking about is pretty nice if the crime just doesn't spread there. I raised my kids in south Jackson and I loved it back then. I don't know how it has changed so much over the years. Some of the subdivisions that were the best places to live back then are now the worst for crime. I get nervous just driving through the area now.

You had to coming from clinton,or terry/farend /crystal springs, they can be got to from springridge rd. Now south jackson does have bad crime!! Oh by the way you say you would be looking for acres (how many) ive got 2 i'll sell ya'll ,got a house&a barn.

Springridge runs from Clinton to Byram so technically part of it is in South Jackson.

The really rundown areas would be primarily in West Jackson I think.

Thanks Southern Fried, I already purchased land in Raymond for my
house.

Please NOTE that to someone from Los Angeles, California, South
Jackson might look like "open land." It's hard to explain.

What I meant was trees and trees and trees forever. No tall glass
buildings or anything.

It seemed kind of country, but I didn't really see any people. The
homes looked decent.

The countryside (to an outsider) is so pretty that you don't imagine
much crime going on, but I have now learned that it's really bad in
South Jackson.

Looks can be deceiving.

Mayor Melton has been trying to convict members of the Wood Street gang for a long time. Wood street is pretty close to downtown, and runs parallel to Bailey ave.

look for boarded up homes that have been vandilized. 'Grown' men hangin around the house and walking up the streets, lots of activity during the day(when they should be working), trashed homes. stolen power........ you would not catch me in any part of south jackson at night!!! west jackson is another-capital street, ellis ave(the part close to capital street), alabama st, galvez(which has the all of the above), there is areas called the "queens" any street that starts with "queen" has the above listed too. some areas you will have a good street where they take care of their homes, ect. then you turn the corner and there is a bad street. i think where you are going should be ok-that would be out in the country for some of us. but i still would invest in some security bars-it wouldn't hurt down here.
