I'm a native New Englander. I spent a good bit of this past summer in Mississippi because I heard it might be a good place to retire. I really like MS but, to be honest, there's a lot of very fat people.

In New England I'd say 1 of 3 people are obese. In MS I'd say 2 of 3 people are obese, and a lot of them aren't just fat...they're enormous. It's a shame to see so many really fat young people especially. There's a real health problem there.

We have had this discussion before (more than once) . I am not sure it's necessary to go into it again.

Well, my original point was that despite his weight, the main guy focussed on in that particular show was really determined to get healthy, and was working hard towards his goal. He NEARLY inspired me to start an excercise regime myself..nearly
I think Oprah was trying to show something positive here, and I'm glad the folks involved got to show the audience that they weren't just sitting around complaining, or feeling sorry for themselves. I know that they only showed a small selection of people, but it's better than nothing, imho.
And don't worry about U.S obesity folks, you should see us over here sometime...wheweeee! We aint exactly the health paragon of virtue down here y'know!

Trying to convince an automobile-dependent society into approving a walking and pedestrian-friendly community is a very difficult task. Welcome to MS, the land of interstates, fried food, and all that is good (just not good for you).
