I hope you make it back soon...you sound really unhappy...and the NE part of the state sounds really good! I have so enjoyed listening to the good memories of Greenville though....I'm sure even your relatives have good memories too! It's always what you make of it they say...but it really does get very difficult sometimes ...Good Luck!!

I went to Washington for a brief time and felt it was fine. As for the town I still have family living there. My grandfather started his business there and will never leave. My grandmother told me and all of my cousins to move to Oxford. Greenville is a tough town but it does have some beautiful historic homes. I now live in Florida and miss the southern hospitality.

Greenville does have some beautiful homes...when you said you went to Washington, did you mean Washington School? It's not feasible for those of us who own a business to just pick up and move, even though we may sometimes want to! Oxford is a nice place...two of my children live there now! What part of Florida do you live in? I'm familiar with the Ft. Walton Beach area....I think the panhandle is a really nice area!!

My grandfather owned all the land from there back to the ditch where Soloman Jr. Hi School is....we actually played in the dirt piles during construction of the mall! It used to be a bean crop! Then, I learned to drive on the mall parking lot once they got it paved!! Ha!!

Wow, I used to live on Rose Street and we would walk across the fields, through Solomon onto to mall. I walked that route many a day in the summer, back and forth, back and forth. Once we were olders, we would ride motorcycles in the fields around Solomon. Great times

Well THAT is news to me, I neither live in a mansion or a shack! I would be smack dab in the "in between" zone. I have lived here for all my life and there have always been many stages and classes. High, upper middle, middle, lower middle, low and downright poor. Just as in any city or community!
Your statement is the most ridiculous statement I have read in many years referring to the Delta or the South. If you truly believe that, then in fact YOU have never been passed the Mason-Dixon line and certainly not to Greenville or the Delta....good grief your ignorance is showing!

Good things about Greenville?? The lake, the fishing, the scenery, the levee, the history, the people.
Bad things? Just as in so many economic depressed areas around the entire USA, crime and poverty.
Education? I hear the same issues in many other communities.
Risks? Try the big cities like NYC, LA, Detroit....and get back to me of your "safer" experience!
There is no paradise! Even the so called perfect places to live have their crime events. Whether it be a child kidnapped, burglaries, thieves, scandals, children stalked by predators, crime is everywhere! True, in varying degrees, but no one should feel totally safe in a cocoon or they may be rudely awakened by the reality of the nearby real world.
As for my own safety. I have never felt threatened in my neighborhood or while shopping. I take precautions as I would in any city or community. Good sense should not stop at the front door of your home. There are all kinds in every community, good and bad, but none are all bad or all good, anywhere!
I have lived in Greenville all my life, I raised my kids here, my relatives are still here. We make the best of it and try to find joy in life and in Greenville.
All this negative stuff is more than half the problem of Greenville. If folks would take constructive measures to improve this city, think of the miracles that could happen! Network, volunteer, find a cause and make a change for the better. Litter bothers you?? Get out and pick it up! Report those you see littering to the police. It is against the law!!
You see a need, fulfill it or contact those who should, let your voice be heard in anyway that you can find. Call your City Leaders and complain, write a letter in the newspaper, do whatever it takes to make that change happen for the better and do not accept NO for an answer ....and for heaven's sake, VOTE!!! How can anyone complain about the state of the city, if they do not make an effort to vote in change??
To those with nothing positive to say, please stay quiet until you are ready to stand up for what you have to say with real actions, suggestions, input, solutions and not just whining complaints. We do not need more complaints, we all know the problems, we need solutions and resolutions, actions and leadership from all parts of the community.
Take a chance...get involved!
To those of you who have left, sorry to see you go. We are doing the best we can here back home, running down your home town does not help us one bit. If you have a network of answers, please feel free to share them. Meanwhile, give us a chance to do the best we can. Greenville is still all we have and most of us have not given up the fight and never will!

Greenville, MS just sounds scary. You would definitely want to be warned of the place if you are an outsider looking to move to the area.
