Default Vegetables in Mississippi

Ok, thought this might be an interesting thread. Who has the best vegetables?

There's something about Smith County, everything grown there is a little sweeter, so they get it for Watermelons - sorry Water Valley. I've been to both festivals, and the better watermelons are in Smith County.

Bassfield, MS - definitely the winner for Tomatoes. You can hear folks at the farmer's market asking "Where are the Bassfield Tomatoes?"

Sweet Potatoes - got to be Vardaman, you don't even have to pay for them, in Vardaman sweet potatoes are free.

My own town isn't known for growing anything well, but we are famous for our restaurant. The original Country Fisherman is in Prentiss, MS.

So what are the other secret places for vegetables around Mississippi? Who has the best Cantaloupes, or Okra?

Later,
RushB

We have a local sweet potato grower here in Tate County and the taters are good!...but they aren't free. This year, the best squash and tomatoes came from my garden.

Default Garden growers

Hey,

I bought some land, 10 acres, in Tate Co. I need someone to grow anything their hearts desire. Purple hull peas is probably my favorite, but love tomatoes, greens, corn, etc.

Just give me a call...lets talk. 224 653 8574 is my Number.

Ask for Tyrone!!!

Prentiss huh? I spent some time in Monticello growing up, so I know all about that area. And yes, I have eaten at the original Country Fisherman
