"What the market will stand" is what others are willing to pay for your property. It all depends on how badly you need to sell. A few years ago, I sold a house for $20,000 less than what it cost me to build, because it had sat on the market for 2 years and I needed to unload it. And that was when the market was better than it is now.

when things are good, people buy new, when things are bad, few people are buying. Desoto is overbuilt.
