All are good places in northeastern Mississippi. Consider some of the smaller towns were housing is more affordable. Check out a little place of around 4,000 people called Houston! About 60 miles south of Oxford, 45 miles north of Starkville, 40 minuets up the scenic Natchez Trace Parkway. I personally know of a home (3/2/2) 1881 sq. ft., new roof, and a/c system, .98 acre lot there with your price objective, not listed on any real-estate site, I wish was here in Florida, Great people, slow pace, good schools ( 10 point scale a score of 7), low crime rate, home of the "Sundancer" Solar Car (Frequent Winner of Dell-Winston Solar Car Challenge.
Houston....Close enough for comfort far enough to enjoy. Just depends on what you're looking for. People in Houston are just like those from where you're moving from.... "Rear-ends" then you'll find the "rear-ends"... "Good Folks" you'll find the "Good Folks!" Where you end up is where you're supposed to be! Shhhhh! Mississippi IS a "Good Place", just tried to keep it a secret!
