Big development/disappointment. New flood maps came out on 14 March for Jackson county. The house we were under contract for had a flood insurance quote for just over $300 a year. This was on top of $900 home owners insurance and $2100 of wind and hail. Flood insurance increased to almost $4000. After visiting here and a few other sites we had originally budgeted $3000 - $4000 a month for all the insurance. so $3300 was right in there. $7300 put us way over budget and we have to get out of the contract. We got a couple quick quotes going north of I-10 and south of I-10. The difference wasn't enough make south of I-10 out of the question. The flood was the same as south (although in some areas north, flood was optional, but we still wanted it), but wind and hail was cheaper. New maps for Biloxi are due out in June. Our insurance agent recommended that if we are going to look there that it may be a good idea to wait until they come out.

Default Born in raised near Keesler AFB, gulf coast

I was born and went to school in Southern MS. I honeslty do not think ocean springs has the best school for the location. You are in the flood plane which is a bad place to be. Also i grew up elementery school in Windsor park...odd.

you want to be north of the interstate. that would put you in the bilox or D'Iberville school system. Both are good. And have new high schools and relatively new junior schools. Woolmarket is a good area if you can get into it. ( That is where i moved after ocean springs) Your insurance will be much lower there.

ps. my mom has taught at most of the school districts in the area. and i have gone to both. They are very comparable.

I need info about Biloxi High School. We want to live on the airbase,Keesler, but are wondering about the school. Mostly my concern is safety.

So you think that Biloxi HS is safe with good teachers? I have heard yes and no by Air Force folks. I'd love to live on the base but want what is best for my son.

Biloxi HS and Bay St Louis HS are both good schools. Bay St Louis would be a long drive to the base every day for work.
