Info Needed on Ocean Springs
My husband may be taking a job in Ocean Springs. Does anyone have an opinion on this area? Good place to live? What would be a recommended hospital to work at? Crime an issue? Weather? Shopping? Entertainment? Any input would be appreciated! Thank you.

Ocean Springs is fantastic. It is a small, charming city, and generally considered a little more upscale and artsy than its surrounding cities. They have many little festivals and artwalks in downtown Ocean Springs. I love to drive over there on my lunch break and sit at the Harbor, plus the old oak trees and excellent area restaurants are enjoyable. I have no doubt that you will like the city. The crime is not as bad as Biloxi, but you are not far from the casinos, either. Singing River Hospital (or Ocean Springs Hospital) would be a good place to work (Though, Biloxi Regional isn't far from there, either.) Weather is similar all over the south...hot, humid, and warmer winters. Somehow it is more charming because of the oak trees and the magnolias. It...well, it feels like the south. I wasn't born and raised in Mississippi, but I'm certainly enjoying the charm...but that's probably just the artist in me

different
I have recently discovered Ocean Springs myself. I spent a few days looking around the area and surrounding towns because we will be relocating pretty soon. I wanted an area that felt safe and had good reviews of the public schools. I need the move to be a good one because of our children. I fell in love with Ocean Springs. Its intimate setting is very pretty. The people have been great and the atmosphere is calm. I've already contacted a real estate agent and hope to be there within the month of April. I think if you actually take a look at the town you will appreciate it.

Ocean Springs is really nice. They turned the old Rail Road station into the Info building, as well as a few cute shops. Downtown there is very charming, but can be heck getting though when driving.
The town seems more well kept that across the bridge.. maybe they didn't get hit as hard by Katrina.. I dont know.. just seems cleaner. One thing though the Beaches there are not as nice to me... they are small and the parking to them is bad. But its still a very nice area.
There are many hospitals in the area.. Each City here has its own Hospital.. so you have choices, and with Katrina, many people have left and they are in need of trained professionals like yourself. I know you will love it down here.. its a great place to live.

I agree with all the other posts, Out of all the towns in the area, this is one of the nicest. I drive through there a lot & haven't found a ghetto yet. There usually where the chicken stands, pawn shops etc. are, but not in OS.

Ocean Springs
I can't say too much about Ocean Springs. It is my hometown, and therefore only natural, but I think it is wonderful. Beaches (though getting in the water is rather disappointing), a beautiful downtown, some lovely historical houses (more before the hurricane), warm and friendly people...I could go on. There are fabulous restaurants and a feel of artistic liberalism mixed with very southern charm that gives it a unique feel. There are lots of art shows and festivals. Check out the Mary C. O'Keefe Cultural Center (we just call it the Mary C.) and Mosaic, a wonderful Argentinian-owned tapas bar that I frequent when I'm at home.
I've lived away from home for 4 years now and I'm still unable to call anywhere but OS home. Going back to visit restores something necessary to my soul. I hope that you truly love it, if you get a chance to go.
