I am so glad I moved here from Seattle WA. Washington State is beautiful but to many snobs and way waaaaay overrated. I moved to Memphis due to my husbands job. We live in midtown Memphis now but I would love to live in Mississippi. I too, before I came here, I had heard all kinds of bad stuff about the south. How backwoods people are and all these racial tension etc. I came here full of expectations. But I have found that I really enjoy it here more then anywhere I ever been. I have lived in Sweden ( born and raised ), Germany, Oklahoma, Washington State and now in Tennessee. People here in Tennessee and Mississippi are wonderful and caring except that in Memphis people can't drive. But otherwise I am proad telling people where I live.
Like I said, I want to move to MS, Olive Branch or surrounding area. I don't mind comuting up to 20 miles a day. Small safe towns are great. Do you guys have any sugestions?

I know its not MS but i've heard Nashville, TN is very nice. Not so expensive but you have alot of cool things to do nearby within easy reach.

DeSoto county is a shorter drive, but OB is good too.

I have to correct myself.

Olive Branch is in DeSoto Co., but it is south east of Memphis. Southaven and Horn Lake are more directly south and closer.

I live in Seattle now but recently spent time in Mississippi, and I can sure see the appeal.

to each their own, but I hope you're kidding in your comparison of the Seattle area and the State of Washington, and the States of MISSISSIPPI, or the City of Memphis, TN-- Ilived in Washington as well and I can't MAKE a comparison---lifestyle, economic conditions, political environment, topography, demographic/ethnic makeup, the overall educational level of their respective residents, the US/regional histories, attitudes, schools, higher education facilities, infrastructure, weather, or many other important variables, facts, and considerations.

I don't know if you're a citizen or a foreign national (Swedish I suppose), but I hope you make a positive and meaningful contribution to an area plagued by many many woes.

I grew up in MS, and while I went through a phase of wanting to get away (and still may, just to say I've lived somewhere else for a significant period of time), I will always call Mississippi home. There are "woes" everywhere, I believe. It's just nicer to endure them here.
