Well it was really my kids was the ones that were experiencing it while in school...My grandmother came home & told me how the children were in the class...it was how they treated my daughter (the only black in her class) & also racism is a feeling that she picked up on...we couldn't ask my other daughter because if she experienced it she wouldn't know (she was in kindergarten)...but racism in school is only learned from a parent...I know that to find hair products for myself I had to go to walmart or into "the hood"...I walked into a beauty supply and everybody in line looked at me, the cashier stopped what she was doing to look at me, I kept walking and all their eyes were following me, I stopped my kids and was like lets go...I bs you not, I heard a sigh of relief & the cashier THEN continued ringing up as I was walking out the door...
About 10 yrs ago I visited, my grandma's friend lived there and was telling us about the racism there also & to be careful who I talked to...she was telling me this when I asked her why the palm tree leaves were tied up & she didn't know so I said I wanted to ask somebody walking by...she reminded me of this again when I asked her to pull over so I could pick an orange off a tree...that guy was nice & let me pick his orange lol
Our racist experiences were not plentiful, but it was still more than what I experienced in MS...also, Phoenix isn't quiet lol, they have a high crime rate...good thing about Phoenix is their economy, I think it's pretty darn good.

If someone asked me about Wisconsin being racist against whites, I would answer the question without posting any demeaning remarks against the individual for asking a question. People are free in this country to ask whatever question. A question unasked is a dumb question.

Blacks may be treated better than they used to be in the south, but to say they have an equal chance at the 'good life" is laughable at best.

You're preaching to the wrong choir. Ministers did not post the original question but was simply quoting in in their response.

That's everywhere not just the south. The south (racism's whipping post) just gets the blame/credit for it.
I don't know what your definition of 'good life' is but I'm white, have lived in the south most of my life, and I haven't seen much of that 'good life' you speak of myself.

But the people who want to make everything about race won't understand that so it's irrelevant. It won't matter if we mention the "integrated" neigborhood out by the lake where my bro's fairly racist uncle lives right around from a retired UAW worker from Mic higan and his wife - they drive nice vehicles and have a nicer home than uncle. It wont matter when folks point out (as you and I have) that there are both poor blacks and poor whites and it's not your skin color that determines the shake you get in life - if you stay around here where everyone knows everyone, a poor white will be treated like a poor white by a large part of the community simply because everyone knows your family is poor.

It is unbelievable that just by asking a simple question, people can resort to name calling. This is why Eric Holder said that people are cowards when it comes to discussing race. For individual to get so touchy in 2009 it is amazing. For a person to attack someone because of how they express their self on a forum message board is appauling. No one is trying to be grammatically correct, when posting on a message board. Who cares about prepositional phrases, conjunctions, and the like. I wonder how old some of the people are on this thread are, because sometimes it sounds like I'm back in highschool. If someone does not agree with you, respect their opinion, instead of trying to insult their intelligence. I'm 31 How about you? To all those that would like to share your experiences, I am very interested in hearing from you. I deeply hope that race relations are improving across the board.
When I was in Pearl and Carthage Mississippi, the people I encountered were some of the nicest people, way nicer then in Wisconsin, not all but some. I know there are nice people everywhere. I just had a simple question, if it offends people that much please do not bother to respond.
Thank you all for sharing your experiences!!!

MINISTERS:
I agree with you, race is a very touchy subject. Perhaps instead of asking if the KKK has activity going on in Mississippi you should have made the question a broader one.
Does the Klan still exist throughout the US? There are Klan groups in every single American state and if I'm correct more in the western states than the south!
If you really want to do fact finding on the Klan groups in Mississippi, just look them up on the internet, they all post addresses!
I know because I've done so. Not only are there Klan groups but even afew hate groups of other races too! Americans are cowards well a majority of them anyway when the topic of race is mentioned. Name calling doesn't bother me by the way because if I don't like what I'm hearing it goes in one EAR and outta the other EAR!!!!!
As for the Klan or any other hate group thay can preach what ever they like, demonstate wherever they want and label people but as long as they do not physically attack anyone.
I WILL ALWAYS ENJOY THE RACE DEBATE-ALL OF US SHOULD BE PROUD OF HER/HIS CULTURE AND HERITAGE!!

We all have alot more in common. Can we agree? We all like safe neighborhoods? We all want good education for our children. We all want to make more money. LOL We all love great weather. Mississippi definetely has Wisconsin beat in this catergory. We all love great food and wholesome music. We have alot in common we just look different and some of us talk different. I am not racist at all my great grandfather is white, my grandmother is half white, and my mom has more white in her than black. I love all people, and I hope to one day have a ministry in the south and my church will look just like heaven, and hopefully I can even win those Klan members for Christ.
Overall, I am pleased by your responses it is obvious that people really want to move past from race. I think that is awesome, and I hope we can all unite together to make this world a better place. It only takes one person to change a generation, we can be that one.
